As I mentioned in a previous thread I am going to be buying a half a pig and a quarter beef.   Is all this talk about grass feed organic meat real or is it hoooey?   With my wife having cancer we want to avoid as much crap in our foods as possible.

Corn is not easily digested by cattle. So they end up giving them antacids.  It causes indigestion.  Organic beef is meaningless unless you know what they think 'organic beef' is. Does that mean that the cow only ate grass? Did it have vaccines? Did the cow eat only organic grass?  It's all hooey. Same with free range, though you get better more natural marbling in Free range (the cow actually works for its food unlike in high density feed lots).  I'd be more concerned about this half-pig.  Why not just go out and hunt one? We're doing just that next month... 4 pigs, 2 goats, one corriente cow. Should be set for a couple weeks, right?

Organic grass feed beef is a marketing term to get you to buy beef that is not marbled. Grain feed beef has marbling that makes it more tender and taste better.
Go to any top Steak House and you will see marbled steaks not grass feed meat.

Stop at a Celtic Cafe today.  Their me was Scottish Highland Beef from a farm about 2.5 miles from my home.  I always wonder if Scottish Highland beef was better or worse.  According to the cafe people the hamburger are really good( it was ) but the roasts are a little dry for their needs I was just wondering.  As far as hunting the hogs That will not happen this year.   I will be retiring in less than a yr and part of my retirement will be partially based on how much I make this year so very little hunting time this yr.  Also the wild hogs have not made it over to my side of the State.   This means no single day hunts.     Next year that is a different story.  Critters beware.
