Was helping a friend pack up a storage unit to make room in his house, and a big portion of what he was putting into storage were empty boxes.  I think I even saw a VCR box in there somewhere, I never got the concept of keeping shit like that...he insists that it's in case he has to send it back.

The bigger boxes I break down and stash under my bed or elsewhere. Rifle boxes I leave like they came

For anything I think I might sell someday.  Gun and camera stuff, mainly.

I store some stuff in printer paper boxes. they stack nicely and can handle quite a bit of weight.

Other than that I'm not wasting space storing empty boxes.

I understand keeping gun cases, hell I'm still trying to find something to do with all those gun locks.  I'm talking just everyday electronic equipment, small kitchen appliances, TV boxes etc...

I have so many boxes sometimes I think I need to seek professional help.

I will say this: If I have to ship something, small or large, I probably have a box for it.

Are you him?  Why do you keep them, he's paying for a storage unit for empty boxes!  That's just crazy to me.

Me too.  I do break them down and store them in my workshop attic.

I don't have room to keep empty boxes.  No chance I'm paying storage fees for someone to store trash.

I always have a few to ship stuff in, but not from shit I buy.

Yep.  Guns, scopes, all my electronic equipment, any boxes that make it easy to pack the original stuff back in for moving.  These all go in the attic so it is no burden.  If I was moving or putting in storage, they'd have stuff in them.

I also keep a stash of empty boxes around in the garage for shipping stuff that I sell from time to time.

Computer parts/electronics mostly.  Comes in handy when I'm selling something on ebay.

I guess I got spoiled to the .gov paying for my moves over the years.  I just trash them as soon as I take the item out of the box.

Me too.  Nice that this post came up, I was beginning to think I was fucked in the head or something.

Thanks OP.

I break down boxes and stack them in a corner of my shop. When the pile gets too tall I haul it to the recycle bin. I always hold onto a couple "just in case."

But the truth is, we keep other boxes as well, to pack stuff into.

I helped move my Mother from one town to another. A whole house full of stuff. She had boxes full of empty boxes. About the fourth trip into the moving truck with a load of boxes full of empty boxes I lost it and started ranting. I realized that the stuff that used to be in all of the empty boxes was packed into other boxes.

I only keep boxes for things that I think I may need to warranty (printer, etc) or boxes that are good size for storing things.  No need to keep my gun boxes as they were lost when the canoe flipped over ... I would have never sold them anyway.

We have half of a closet full of assorted boxes that are not gun related.

Any time I sell a firearm, I sell it in the factory box, if the firearm came in a factory box.
Sadly, I've had to sell a lot of firearms. The buyers always appreciate getting the factory box.

Anything over a few hundred bucks it's worth saving the box in case you want to sell it. For some reason the original box makes a product worth more

I was going to sell a firearm once. The guy asked if I had the box? That was years ago and I saved every box since then. I don't know if it even matters, but it stuck with me.

Most electronics are out of date after a couple of years anyway though.
