Been in powerlifting/bulking mode for the last year or so.  Getting the numbers I want but also putting on mass (Good and bad).  Seems that the snoring has come up along with the numbers.

Can't do the CPAP thing.  Can't deal with something near my face when sleeping and even a light fan causes me to wake up gasping and freaking out.

Any homebrewed suggestions?  If I see a doctor are they going to do anything besides tell me to either lose weight or use a CPAP?  I do plan on cutting once spring hits and I'm always effective at it, but I don't want my only options in life to be be a tiny girly man or be in apnea/snoring hell.  Wife is spending more of the night on the couch, beginning to feel like I have a roommate that pays faaaaaaaar less than half of her share of the utilities.  Even the cat bailed.  Halp

I didnt think I could "do the CPAP thing" either.
I dont know a better way to say this but

CPAP Saved my life.

There are mask options that may work for you (nasal pillows).  IF you have OSA
the by God try the cure.  No one wants or thinks they can tolerate the mask, or everyone
says I'm a mouth breather so a nose mask wont do jack.  Bullshit.  1st time I put that
glorious mask on I was zonked for 11 straight hours and didnt move once. I have
worn it religiously for 6 years now...

Cant vouch for either of these...but I have seen suggestions to sew a Tennis ball to the back of a T Shirt which will force you to roll off your back if you roll on to it. I am also seeing advertizing for a mouth piece where the bottom jaw is held in a position outside the upper jaw...

Well then.  Guess I'll see the doc and see what she says.

Philosophical question:  What has changed in mankind that Snoring/Apnea and whatnot are such a big deal?  How did we live before these little machines that squirt air in our noses?

Amphetamines were prescribed more often......

IIRC sleeping on your back makes snoring worse.  Weight also plays a factor too, unfortunately.

Only thing I can think of if you don't want to invest a lot ... breathe easy nasal strips.  they pretty much just pull the skin on your nose so it forces your nasal passages to open up a little.  or rolling over and sleeping on your side or stomach.

or ear plugs for everyone else.

get the APAP or CPAP with a mask that works for you.  The first one of mine didn't work, but the second one did.  I do not feel tired all day like I used to and I have more energy.  More energy may help you fitness wise, too.  DO IT!!!

The mouth pieces that work like a mouth piece you would see an nfl players dont work.

The reason is you have to put pressure to keep you mouth shut which is what pushes your bottom jaw forward to open the air passage. Problem is when you sleep your mouth tends to open or at least doesnt have pressure to remain closed so the mouth piece cannot do what it designed for doing. When awake it does fine but soon as you doze it stops working right.

I cut WAY down on my drinking and I use Breathe Right strips.

Works for me.

I am also losing weight which doesn't work with your current plan.

Sleep on your side or stomach.  Everyone that sleeps on their back snores sooner or later.  Once your BMI is in the apnea zone, you are screwed.

Okay, Pajama Boy, sit up straight and pay attention, because this is important: Man up, get an exam, take a sleep test if recommended, or turn in your man-card.

Snoring can either be something minor that's easily remedied, or a sign of something potentially life threatening.

Write down this website in case you need CPAP therapy:  www.cpaptalk.com. They're kind of the arfcom of "hosers". Very pro-active, with a problem-solving mindset. You can find out all kids of things about Sleep Apnea and how to counter it. You'll also learn those things the medical equipment dealers don't want you to know, such as how to select the proper machine, how to set it up, how to evaluate the results, and how to adjust the settings to optimize these results.

The website is sponsored by an equipment supplier whose prices are very competitive.

There are numerous masks available, from complete face covers to simple nasal pillows. There's one in there you can easily learn to sleep with
