Jon Boorom, a member of WWII Historical Re-enactment Society Inc., says he was at the event depicted in the photos, which he described as "a Star Trek convention but for WWII enthusiasts."

People dress in WW2 soviet uniforms all the time, but then nobody cares so you never read about it.

It is impossible to form an opinion about that event without personally interviewing the participants.  This country simply isn't capable of discussing such matters without resorting to histrionics either way.

The uniforms are tailored to hide a beer belly, whereas soviet uniforms accentuate a vodka belly

As a German born I believe this is kind of lame.  My thoughts are this is America we have a 1st Amendment and these people have the freedom to do this no matter how dumb I think it is.  Who cares no one was hurt other than the militant butt hurt people who disagree with the 1st Amend.  I wore my grandfathers SS uniform to a Halloween party once and everyone thought it was cool because it was a piece of history not the symbolism of the nazi's.  In all honesty I hate what the nazi's did to Germany and to the rest of the world and I hate hitler most of all.  But this who gives a shit bunch of people acting.

Looks like fun.

Y'all need to lighten up. It doesn't say they were 88'ers.  (which, even that would be their right and their business).

They're reenactors. You realize that people dress up like Confederates, Indians, Bushi, all kinds of historically oppressive characters. But, for some reason, dress up in a Nazi uniform and people get their panties all bunched up.

I think that there is a difference between participating in a re-enactment of WWII and attending dinner at a German restaurant dressed as a Nazi.  It doesn't really bother me and I certainly don't think they're 88ers, but it is one of the things that makes you go "Wow, what a titanically bad business decision."

Doing it on MLK day certainly can't be an accident either, and probably gives some insight into their motivations.

Miss the video of the hammer and sickle being waved around in front of the WH when Obama was re-elected?

The American left is utterly fascinated with communism, but oddly despises naziism. Probably has to do with them successfully duping the American public into believing nazis were a right wing group (even though they were the national socialist party).

And "Uncle Joe's" body count rivals or surpasses what Hitler pulled off.
