Trying to install a wireless router on my parents computer (Dad wanted Netflix) and during install it asked me whether the connection is Dynamic IP or Static IP?  No idea.

He is on Time Warner cable/internet.  Wireless router is a TP-Link TL-WDR3500

If he was using static IP addresses you would already know it.

This... It SHOULD be Dynamic unless he is setup for a static address. More than likely if you or him is asking this question it will be dynamic.

You can get a static IP setup from pretty much any ISP if you wish.

Bingo... and he'd be paying extra for it too (usually another $5-10/month).  The only people who request static IPs are people running servers, or other network resources that they want to access remotely, and they don't want to futz around with DynDNS or similar services.

If you don't know, you have a dynamic IP.

Dynamic.

If it needed to be Static, they most likely opted/pay for that b/c they have specific needs for a static IP and wouldn't need help setting up a router.

Sure you can, but by default it's going to be dynamic 99% of the time unless you called and specifically asked for a Static and paid the extra money.

Got it up and working.  I didn't know about the different types of addresses but I do now.  I love this place

Also, while you're there, make sure the flux capacitor is securely connected to the RGVD port on the back of the modem. You can't miss it.
