Just curious. I am one of a multitude of Members on this site who have not coughed up the required dollars to be on the Team. I have a lot different reasons. I will list below some of the possible reasons. Mind you these are not MY reasons, just possibilities.

1. Tin foil hat excuses A through M.

I can see the media coverage.
   Your question, Senator.
Yes. Citizen X, it has be reported that when you were a gun owner, you contributed some funds to a right wing militia website called AR15.com. Would you comment on the veracity of theses reports?

2. Imbroglio. Is this entity a highlight or the downfall of this site. I would tend to think one of the highlights.

3. Too many fundamentalists. I can't join because I don't have Bible program installed on my computer.

4. Too many atheists. Who are these godless heathens anyway?

5. I'm too lazy. If I actually paid money, I might feel compelled use the site.

6. I don't have a cool enough picture for my sig. Besides I don't know how photoshop anyway.

7. They left my state off of the hometown section...the bastards.

8. I don't watch sh*t like The Sopranos.

9. I get tired of the semi-daily "Hit it?" post.
There are a lot better sites for girly pics.

10. I don't own an AR15.

Like I said, possible reasons. Feel free to post your own, members. Just trying to stir things up a bit.

Have an AR15 kind of day.

No threat of me going into public office.  Too much other crap under the rug to worry about an "alledged" membership to AR15.com

Working on that.

I don't.  The Colt AR15 is a banned firearm in my home state, the same home state as Colt.  I own a Colt HBar.

I will join and my money will go out right after Christmas!

Highlight.

I'm not a paying member because right now that would be too frivolous an expenditure for my taught budget.  Maybe later.

No mas. I started working three months ago, and I've coughed over too much money to the NRA, NR, tuition, drinking, etc, etc.

Plus, I don't own an AR-15(for legal reasons), and need to save up so I can find a less socialist place to live.

Plus, I blow all my money on crack.

Really, if it were $30 per year more people would join, more money would be made.
Ya know - 3 folks join at $60, but 15 join at $30...

Then all the "locks" and bad blood....makes it hard to feel comfortable sometimes.

IMO, $5.00 a month is not too steep.

s0ulzer0 does have a good point though.  Maybe more money would be made if the price was lower.  Poll?
Link Posted: 12/16/2002 8:37:26 AM EDT

Poll!  I would definately send $$ in if it were $29.99 a year.

$29.99 is a magical price in sales.  Anything over this number requires more psychological consideration for some reason.  It just FEELS too expensive!

BTW - I buy guns I can't afford too.

So what ARE your reasons......
Link Posted: 12/16/2002 9:06:40 AM EDT
[#16]
I didnt become a 'member' for quite a time, because money really was an issue. I know that having $60 in my pocket to go towards some other 'banned' part for another gun took priority over dontating to the site (yes, I'm honest and selfish at times) [;)]

However, I've been a part of the AR15.com community since its early days, the days when the board was 1/10th of what it is today. But I did feel obligated to support the site that kept me up many a night, allowed me to meet some wonderful people and find some great deals.

Yes, it may have taken me nearly 4 years, but I did it - and havent regretted it. This has been my my home away from home and I'll do what I can, when I can to help maintain it as such.

Combined with the fact that B&Js in Albany along with Hirams help have certainly made it worthwhile. (HIRAM - SAR-1's buddy - hook us up in Jan.!!!! JoeKens - $270 - 3 or more, and add a little sumptin' sumptin' for yer'self to spend on Dahila!!!!![;)])

But do I think of 'non-members' as any less important to the overall character of this site? Absolutely not. I had my own reasons for not joining as well, with the 'cash in hand' issue being the most important to me - and I'm sure its on the minds of others as well. But I know that if most could, they would....and someday they will.

Way I see it, we are one, if not the most powerful internet gun sites on the net by way of numbers - 20K + perhaps?

Can I be a mod now? [:D]

If you don't, then don't. I read a thread a while back. Some of the other paid members where trying to get (badger) people to join. The "Mod's" stepped in and told them to knock-it-off, it is not mandatory to join!... My kind of people. Do what feels right for you, I did.

My reasons for not joining :

1 I find it extremely hard to believe that with all the people that visit this site it doesn't make enough money from selling the banner ads to pay for itself. Something doesn't seem right here. There aren't any other discussion boards that are asking for money.

2 As Torf and others have said $60 is too much. If it was $30 I probably would of joined by now. To me, if I'm gonna spend $60 I'm thinking hey for a little more I could buy one more glock mag. Especially considering that other boards don't ask for ANYTHING. I think $60 is way to much to ask for.

Edited for spelling.

Just seeing how everything is here before I contribute.  Until then, shelling out the money to RKBA groups... I am starting to think that the blitz's from this site have more effect than the NRA... maybe if this site offered the firearms insurance of the NRA?  One thing I have learned is there is no reasonable gun control... you are either pro or anti.

Too many libertarians...kidding. I would say utter laziness and cheapness would be the overriding reasons. I would like to support the site and a Team label was on my New Year's resolution list.

As for MY list of possible reasons for not joining, the references to fundamentalists, atheists and "hit it" posts rank as my major annoyances. I have no wish to be the thought police or to limit topics discussed here, but there are probably better forums in which to discuss/argue/leer at those topics. There's always some battle raging here between the saved and the godless. And always the girly pics.

1. I can't stand Paypal, and don't seem to find the time to go by the post office.
2. I'd join if it was a little less since I don't need the email service.
3. Still somewhat undecided about joining.
4. Waiting until the new year.

60 bucks a year is simply too steep for an avatar and an email address I wouldn't use.  I know it would support the site and everything, but 60 bucks a YEAR is ridiculous.

I agree that $60 is a bit much (I'd join right now if it were $30, $60 will wait until after the holidays, and the lifetime membership offer from hoplite must wait until I'm seriously drunk)

But, ORM-D, the GD is a big part of ARFCOM. Other, "gun-only" forums are slow because, well, you can only go through so many "which gun should I buy", "9mm vs .45", etc, etc, before it gets stale. We're a community - with shared interests. And the fact that the board is lively means that when you do need advice about guns (or women, or dinner, or cars, or whatever), there's actually ppl here to answer your questions!

Think of all the information you've learned on this board.  Most likely it's saved you at least $60.

If you think that $60 is making the Staff and Moderators rich just ask to borrow the company Yugo.

As soon as my Christmas Bonus comes in I plan on joining.  It is the least I can do support our cause and this great site.  Nowhere else on the web ( that I've been to ) can you find a group of people dedicated to educating the public about the media's misrepresentation of firearms.  Even if I wasn't a constant reader and poster here, it would be well worth the $60 to give newbies a place to learn and anti's a place to be converted.
