Anyone heard of this stuff before?

“It’s a like spare tire. You put it in the trunk until you need it.” A half-gallon of Magic Tank equals a half gallon of gas and Bistritzky says it has a shelf like of ten years. “It’s made from gasoline, but what we’ve done is taken out all the highly flammable components,” says Bistritzky.

They made gasoline non-flammable?

Must involve magnets or magic.

Dunno about the "taken out all flammable things" stuff, but as far as shelf stable goes: Aspen Gas is shelf stable for 10 years if the container is unopened. (You may know it as "less unhealthy" chainsaw gas but they also make it for cars, generators and the like where you might want a bit of shelf stable stuff around for an emergency. Very expensive though)

Probably removed the lightest components. Still wouldn't get in a bathtub full of it and smoke a cigar.

Lol.

Sounds like all that it would do is raise the level of your "empty" tank enough for the pickup of your pump to skim what is left out of the tank, and then mix with your next full tank of gasoline without the ill effects of using something like water to do the same thing.

Better off just carrying gas if you're going to do that.

Think about the 10 year shelf life. That could come in handy.

IiRC. It is kerosene. You are mixing the last gallon or so of gas with kerosene to make something that in a warm engine should just run well enough to get you to a pump.

10 year shelf life is a good point. I never let that gallon of gas I carry to get older than a month. My gas gauge is a bit dodgy.

For $40 a gallon, I'd rather have gas

40 a gallon.... cheaper to keep gas in the car!

In the trunk of your car?

That you take to the fuel pump once a week to fill?

Where you can easily rotate the fuel in the can out whenever you fill up?

The gas I use in my lawn mower will be close to 4 years old this spring and I'm betting it starts on the first pull
like always. Stabil Marine Formula is some great stuff.

But taking out a half-gallon can and dumping it into your gas tank every fill-up (or once a week during fill-ups) is such a hassle.

Pennzoil had something like this a number of years ago.

Seems like a fine idea in certain situations.
