“The bottom line is, we wanted not to rush it. We wanted to bring it to a peaceful conclusion,” said Chief Rountree.
An example of why I like and respect LE in my area. http://myfox8.com/2014/02/03/armed-wanted-man-barricaded-inside-w-s-motel-possible-hostage-situation/ No one killed, no dogs shot. I am impressed with the mindset and patience of LE in this case. |

Yeah, kinda funny isn't it? |

It needs a more inflammatory title. Or just add "/sarcasm" to the end; and this thread will have 50 pages of replies, by people who don't click the link, by Friday. |

No, that is not good Police Work. They left the hostage in the hands of the hostage taker. Yes, they later located them and talked him out...but that is flat out wrong. You never leave a hostage taker with a hostage and just allow them to leave...never. The bad side to this is that luck will turn into bad doctrine. |

We had a hostage situation in my sleepy little town once. Old man and his wife were in the process of being declared incapacitated. Old man stormed home from courthouse with wife in tow and barricaded himself in home around 1:00 PM. Three deputies responded. Knowing the guy normally naps from 3 to 5, waited until 3:30. Went in back door and escorted wife out, woke old man and transported both to skilled nursing facility. I thought they did a bang up job.
ETA - no cargo pockets were involved. One plainclothes and two polyester pickle suits. |

I wish American cops looked like that |

Highlight your case in point against the goons that tasered the old lady who was bedridden and stepped on her oxygen line. Yeah, she got paid but they could have killed her. Just refreshing to see that there are still some departments that don't react like soldiers on the battle field and act accordingly. |

Excellent job by that department. That's how it's supposed to be done. If I were being held hostage in a car I would not want the police to stop following. I would want them to continue to follow so they knew where hell I was so they could help me. But if the hostage-taker were going to kill you if the police didn't back off on their pursuit, you might have a differing view. |

Why would he let me go? I am his leverage and I have seen his face and possibly know him or his name and can identify him. |

The hostage-taker in this particular incident threatened to kill his captive if the police did not halt their pursuit. And judging by the report as well the charges, I'm sure he probably would have followed through with his threats. The agencies involved made some great decisions and as a result the hostage is still alive and the bad guy was apprehended. |

The shoot first ask questions later is what is done, way to much, without thinking. Certainly it would have been smarter to ram them off the road, or hell just start shooting. Make damn sure the guy making the threat is jammed into the only position left of killing his hostage or both of them dying in a hail of gunfire from the police. |

I am impressed with the mindset and patience of LE in this case. My local PD deals with standoffs like this several times a year and people rarely get shot (same goes for dogs). I don't think the people here would put-up with the JBTery that seems to go on in blue states. |

Somebody post the Denver PD Hostage standoff video from last week.
That was hostage rescue 101. Never let the hostage taker drive the train...never. Slow and deliberate is fine but the hostage taker is not in charge. He should never be allowed to simply leave with a hostage...never. |

Yeah good cop work....(slow clap)....
