I wouldn't build a gun out of it, but as cheap as AR lowers are going nowadays I wouldn't mind having one just as a teaching aid/conversation piece.

Not interested.....weaker structure and fully exposes FCG to dirt / dust / grit.
Cute idea for a safe queen....not something I would own.

I really want to get one of those and use the new 5 oz BCM rail with it among other things!  The heaviest part would be the barrel!

That would cost money though and I don't have any.

Maybe with inlaid clear Lexan pieces so you can still see the innards without letting in dirt?

Based on my experience of having an M-16 pattern weapon in dirty dusty environments, it will probably keep out every bit as much dirt/dust/grit as the original.

That is to say, I don't predict there to be a big difference in the amount of shit in the works with either.

While I think it may be cool for a range-only toy, did you have to link Recoil magazine?
Link Posted: 1/27/2014 11:56:13 AM EDT

I wouldn't think you could get more than 20ft into the woods with it.

nice for a .22lr build that is being fired in a clean room?

Link Posted: 1/27/2014 11:57:27 AM EDT

I love it.  I wouldn't use it as a home defense gun but for a range piece and something the Scouts would love? Sure!

It'd be easy to clean! hose it out with CLP and shake it off and you're good!

Is this for instructional purposes like the neat old cutaways? If so, cool. If not, full of AIDS.

Why?

If I had a mill I would have already done that, except with a standard fcg.  I would like to mill out the upper, receiver extension and buffer as well.  Then I would have a working cutaway rifle.

X2 on the classroom teaching tool.  Lots of things in industry have cut-aways;  pumps, engines, etc.  But, an inadvertant twig thru the FCG and you are down until you clear it.!

Hmmm I guess the gas could excape pretty easy if running it suppressed, just not sure where it would go first.

Could be use to skirt around the 50 ounce rule in NY and any other states that have it for pistol builds.

That's right, we have a weight limit on mag fed handguns.

If they filled the openings with a lightweight material they might be onto something for a light weight build.

Otherwise it's useless.

But that looks like it would let in pebbles and smaller rocks...
