Gen 1 has smooth grips, all around. Gen 2 has smooth on the side panels, but rough front strap. Gen 3 has finger grooves. Gen 4 replaceable backstraps.

Do people who collect these have any interest in something like a clean Gen 1 tupperware box for a 17? Found one among thrift store junk, and I know other gun collectors are completists.

Gen 3 or possibly very late Gen 2 (?)

Luchs, I'm not at all sure, but I wouldn't doubt it since a lot of people just pitched them at the time. My gun is in great shape, but didn't come with the box.

The guys who teach the armorers classes like to claim there is some demand out there for the old Tupperware boxes.
I guess it wouldn't hurt to have one kicking around

Thanks. Might toss it up on eBay or the EE. It's got all the very 80's fonts warning labels intact inside.

I own a Gen 1 G-21. It's one of the most accurate handguns I've ever owned and shot and I've own and shot alot of handguns. It's my primary winter carry weapon. My G-36 is my summer carry weapon.

I think mine's a Gen 1 Glock 19.  Bought it in 94 or so when I turned 21.  First pistol I bought myself.  It had adjustable sights and they broke the first time I shot it.

Glock was into their second generation of frame designs by the time the G20/21 came out, so even if you had the very first one to come off the assembly line, it's still a Gen 2.

It is not a gen 1. There are supposedly only 16-18 gen 1 Glock 19 ever imported into the country.

Mine has smooth grips, no rail. I bought it late in 1990. When I contacted Glock a few years back they informed me that it was a Gen 1 that was originally chambered in 10mm for the FBI.

I have what I believe is a gen I.  Serial number starts with EU, which I believe is 1989, I don't have time to look it up right now.  It's my first handgun and I bought it new in 1990.  I have the tupperware, all documentation, Cleaning/loading tools and 3 mags.  I still shoots great and I don't ever plan to sell it.

I had one with the first gen Tupperware box. My wife has it now. It's her favorite and boy can she shoot it! She keeps a thirty round mag in it LOL.

Edited to add
If you have the first gen in OD, that is rare!

There is a Gen 1 17 sitting in the Tupperware in the back of my safe... Had it since the late 80's.  Haven't shot it in about a decade as I am not a 'Glock guy'.

I only keep it as it is the first centerfire handgun my dad bought me when I was a pup.

I might grab a 20 and a 29... But they will be proper fucked before any use... Robar'd frame to get rid of those damn finger groves, perhaps get grip angle closer to 1911, stipple the shit out of the frame.... Aftermarket full-support barrels.

I have a 1988 Gen 1 Glock 17.

Bought it from a coworker a year or so ago for $240. He was only asking like $190 and I felt bad that it was such a rip off so once I realized it was a Gen 1 I gave him an extra $50.

I have a Gen 2 G23, been my main CCW for over 20 years now. I remember when I bought it that the store had a couple Gen 1's but he talked me into the latest and greatest, he was real excited about the new adjustable rear sight. I wound up putting Mepro's on it.  Wish I had bought one of the Gen1 guns too just for shits and giggles.

I am sure he does have a first gen G21 which would have been a Gen2  Glock.  Not really a hard concept for those who are not being all hung on on BS

The were after all the first generation of Glock 21 pistols.
