Standing in checkout line, guy in front of me is talking to the register clerk.
He says "I going to go down to the auto show, check out all the lambos, Bentley's, and Benz's. I don't go down there to see Toyotas. I'm thinking about getting a Benz this year, know what I'm saying?" Clerk smiles and says "those are nice". She finishes ringing his items up, he pulls out EBT to pay bill.  .... .... ....

We've all heard stories like this and it was mostly folklore from my perspective until it finally happened to me about a year ago. Guy at the supermarket had a couple of thick high quality steaks from behind the thick high quality steak glass at check out along with a case of Guinness. He used EBT to pay for the steaks which came out to $60 and cash to buy the beer seeing how alcohol is not an approved EBT item apparently. Young guy. I could have eaten for a week on $60. |

Happened to me about a month ago at Kroger. A very well fed woman and her 2 very well feed teenage sons with 2 carts full of steaks and name brand food. Totals about $500. Lady pulls out her wallet rifles through a stack of hundreds and pulls out her ebt card. The clerk just looks at me like . I check out a pack of ground beef and buns and it's $15.In the parking lot, I see them loading their food in a brand new Escalade. It still had the temp tag on it.
