Can you tie a tie? Yes or no will suffice.

I agree.

Every man should be able to use a rifle effectively, sew buttons back on his clothes, cook his own meals, and tie a damn tie.

Yep, had to learn in 6th grade bc our basketball coach made us wear ties to away game.
1/11/2014 6:54:47 AM EDT
[#5]
I do it every Sunday.
1/11/2014 6:54:57 AM EDT
[#6]
I can do it, but I consider wearing a tie to be absolutely ridiculous.  Are my shirt buttons really that offensive?

No.

E: Back in 4th grade, we took a field trip to the state capital. I was the only one with a legitimate tie; the other kids wore clip-on ties.

Yeah I think I first learned in middle school. My roommate didn't know how though, we are both 30 years old. Not sure how he has gotten through life with never learning how to tie a tie, but I went ahead and tried to teach him, ha

I can do a pretty good half windsor but that's about it.
But I haven't owned a tie in many many years.

6' 3" 290lb redneck.

Have represented my company in front of an Administrative Law Judge 80 times, and lost 3 cases.

I only wear a tie to get married or go to court.

But yes, I know how to tie a tie ...
1/11/2014 7:02:31 AM EDT
[#24]
As a kid and teen, I would have to have my Dad do it.  I would then leave all of my ties pretied after he tied them the first time.

I finally taught myself in Basic, when daddy was no longer there to do it.

I even then learned how to wipe my own bottom and tie my shoes.

Yep.  I grew up when men were still expected to be men, and part of being a man is knowing how to tie a tie.

I tie a double windsor every morning of the week. Takes about 30 seconds.

No, it is not. It's a cheap silk tie with a crooked knot.

Of course.  I can also tie my own bow tie (of which I own several). Additionally, I taught both of my daughters and a couple of their friends.  They have, on more than one occasion, "rescued" the boys at school who do not yet possess this skill.

Yes but only in a Windsor knot.

1/11/2014 7:17:42 AM EDT

You should trade tie tying lessons for grammar and punctuation lessons.
