So im going to give Absinthe a go. Ive researched all the different ways people prepare it, so i know the right and wrong way.
I just need a good brand to start with, so i dont get turned off. I know some brands dont have a strong Anise flavor to it, some do. Im looking for the more Anise flavored brands, also, brands that are Distilled and green in color. NOT mixed. And it has to have Grande Wormwood..not the other less potent types. Thanks!

I'm a big drinker and it's just like any other flavor. It taste like Sambuca. It's not a good flavor. There is no fairy. It's a drink for tourist. Kinda like Jager bombs.
If you want to trip, just take mushrooms. Or smoke some space weed. Don't fool yourself into thinking ethanol will let you see God. Just my opinion. |

Yes, demanding grand wormwood isn't going to do anything for you. The thujone concentration in even the strongest distillation is going to be negligible. If you are after hallucinations, you have to go for different chemicals. The myth of hippy-trip visions came from the bathtub absinthe producers at the end of the 19th century. They used copper sulfide solutions to fake the green colour, which WILL fuck you up. All that said, I fucking love absinthe. I love the anise/licorice taste, and it's a high-proof alcohol. One of my favorites is Kubler. It's a blanc absinthe and not outrageously expensive. http://www.drinkupny.com/Kubler_Absinthe_p/s0465.htm Another good on is St George http://www.drinkupny.com/St_George_Absinthe_Verte_p/s0531.htm |

Im looking to try it as it was originally prepared, and as close to original recipie..hence the Grandwormwood and not Southernwood. I also love Anise. Thanks for the brand suggestions. i DID watch a vid last night about St george, and how they use Brandy in theirs. Seems like a fairly legit company, and the bottles are priced right. |

I saw this distillery in a documentary about absinthe. They use the original recipe from the 19th century, so if you are looking for an original flavor, this would probably be it. I've never tried it, it's pretty pricey. |

St George absinthe is good stuff, and, no... You won't trip on absinthe. Watch some videos by the creator of St. George on YouTube, it's pretty educational. He seems like a screaming lib, but I'd sit down and have a few drinks with him.
My father has a theory about where the hallucinogenic stories of absinthe/wormwood originate. Back during La Belle Époque the drink became fashionable, and many of the artists of the day were joyful consumers. Back then syphilis was prevalent, as well, which WILL cause hallucinations as it advances. Who can say whether it was absinthe or disease that caused them? |

Hey, everyone! Hope you don't mind my two cents here on the subject.
For someone who's never had absinthe before, Lucid is actually a good starter brand. It's not horrifically expensive (compared to imports from French distilleries, anyway), and it's extremely good quality. Trying a mediocre absinthe as your first, will sour you on the stuff forever, so hold out for a good one. Cheers! Cindy www.absintheinfo.com |

Obsello (from Spain)
Aka: Obsello Absenta Aka: Obsello Absinthe I know the owners (grew up with them) and have watched them start their distillery/business. The also make Port of Bacelona (Gin). I have drank Obsello (mixed with sugar and water) and it has a taste of licorice and made me feel a slight head change, feeling very intellectual. ymmv. I have tasted a few brands of absinthe that tasted like band aids or tree bark. Review Here

They have a cool design on the bottle, but that's about it. Telling someone to try Lucid for their first absinthe is like telling someone to buy a Lorcin for their first handgun.....
