I'm looking to put some 22lr through the AR.
We all know that i can get a conversion bolt, or a dedicated 22lr upper. Which  is better and why?

Just buy a S&W AR-15-22. It works great. It’s about the same price as a decent 22 upper anyway.

Dedicated gets you an upper with the proper twist rate for .22 LR.

A 5.56 upper works well for me shooting steel at about 59 yards though.  However, I do plan to build a dedicated upper

My CMMG mags work MUCH better than my BDM mags.  Your mileage may vary.

CMMG dedicated upper for the win!
The S&W is nice for what it is; best part is that it's light.

IMO you should already have a 22 rifle for, well you know what a 22 is for. With the conversion unit  you have the versatility of one weapon with a quick change and can throw the kit in your bag having two weapons without carrying two rifles; however , if you want a more accurate and second weapon then a full dedicated 22 ar is the way to go.
