Three days or so before the bombing i flew from LHR to PIT on another airline. I was sitting in a bar with a buddy when news hit about the bombing. I had friends who were on other Pan Am flights on the day of the bombing headed to the states from England. Fucking crazy shit.

I was on a United 747 on my way back from Korea when that happened.  I guess the news was transmitted to the crew because the cabin crew got pretty jumpy for the second half of our flight.  We landed at LAX and heard the news and it became clear that they were concerned about other flights being targeted besides the Pan Am flight.

I had just arrived at JFK with my dad who worked for Pan Am and he got an emergency call that a plane was missing. They didn't yet know what happened.

The number of times I read "Khadaffi never gave the US any more shit after we bombed them" in GD is staggering.

 Lesser known than Lockerbie is UTA 772 about 10 months later. If anyone ever deserved to he assraped with a knife and then shot it was that asshole.

Actually they released him to avoid the matter being brought back into court on appeal.

A sad and tragic day for all involved, and the focus for today should really be on their loss, not what happened afterwards.

BP wanted Libyan oil,it was that simple.

Dubya also gave Libya immunity from any more financial responsibility for Lockerbie,UTA and the disco bombings. They paid out $1.5 billion in blood money - as if that would have paid for destroying Pan Am alone - but do some simple math: they were pumping out 1.8 million barrels of oil per day in 08 when Bush signed that EO. How badly do you think that hurt Moammar's checking account?

In October 2008 Libya paid $1.5 billion into a fund which will be used to compensate relatives of the

   Lockerbie bombing victims;
   American victims of the 1986 Berlin discotheque bombing;
   American victims of the 1989 UTA Flight 772 bombing; and,
   Libyan victims of the 1986 US bombing of Tripoli and Benghazi.

As a result, U.S. President George W. Bush signed an executive order restoring the Libyan government's immunity from terror-related lawsuits and dismissing all of the pending compensation cases in the U.S.

Let us not forget that 28 years ago today we blew up Tripoli and Benghazi.  Sadly, the decapitation strike didn't work.
