They don't get it.
At a certain level people need simplicity, a routine, a way to reduce the number of moving parts in the world to something they can manage. When I was young I entertained myself with alcohol, women, and watching sports and television. My world revolved around drugs (legal ones), sex, sports, and television. Many go on living their whole lives that way - Joe Sixpack and his wife Soccer Mom.
What helps me remember where these people come from are two things: one old and one new. Remember the guys who always got picked last for team sports, who couldn’t read well, who just weren’t as smart as the rest of the class? Remember the people who spent their time socializing, playing ball, and attending parties … and got knocked up by age 17 and hooked on some drug or another? Well they all own cars and drive along side you on the highway, they all vote and they all breed. The second thing hit me a few years later and that is that almost half the people in the United States have below average IQ’s. They too vote, believe what they see on television, and hear from politicians.
Being smart isn’t easy. Being a cynic isn’t popular nor simple. Spending the time to actually figure out what the truth is takes time away from football, talking on the phone, and getting high. We all walk around in a certain simplified life of necessity. We can’t stop to smell every rose or we’d never get anywhere. Liberals live their lives from their feelings, from their hearts. Conservatives live their lives from their thoughts, from their hearts. Watch a child find simple pleasure in everything they see, touch, taste and feel for the first time and you’ll understand what life is when we feel.
It’s been said that someone under 30 years old who isn’t a liberal has no heart and that someone older then 30 who is not a conservative has no brain.
It’s much easier to feel then to think.
