If your wife cares about the 'it' thing, it "needs" to be the Air

Although I seriously consider why people buy into Apple these days when there are much better, much cheaper options out there

Whether you go with the full sized or smaller is your choice. I would definitely recommend  32 GB model with the Wireless Plan too. I don't use my wireless plan a lot but for $15 a month I can use it anywhere to check emails, etc. where I can't find WiFi.

Check out the refurbs. Same warranty as a new but cheaper.

I just got an iPad 2 64GB in the mail today from my Dad (he upgraded to some new Apple product, I don't pay much attention to their crap). I've only messed with it for about 15 minutes total.

Can one install Android or some other OS on these??

We just did this a few days ago: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1565508_.html&page=1

I went with the Mini Retina. Same internals (screen resolution and all) as the Air.

I bought my wife the Air this weekend. We looked at refurbs, they weren't much cheaper, like $75 less than a new one. I have a 2, the Air seems like it has a little crisper display and is noticeably lighter.
