Neat! Paint still seems cheaper though..... ![]() The whole point of this seems to be stuff you can change or turn on/off as necessary - like specific directions, or emergency instructions/directions, or (like the photo) things like "do not disturb" outside hotel rooms. |

Some of you are not getting it...
While yes, the applications of more static displays for arrows and signage are interesting, the whole carpet is an LED grid everywhere it's laid. And if you need directions to your room in a hotel or a gate in a hospital or whatever, the "sign" in the carpet will just stay moving out in front of you, following you by your cell phone's WiFi or Bluetooth. Like the "starting line" in those Carmax commercials. |

But you have to push people to read the entire message if they're standing on it? Also, hackers. The first markets to see this technology will be Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. An official product name will be announced in 2014 as part of the full go-to-market launch. Huh, just like all our new medical devices we're rolling out. Growth markets first. |

That would be cool in airports, movie theaters, etc. Could be a life saver in emergencies. Yes it will great until someone hacks it. “Several people died today when the floor message sent people to the middle of the building instead of the exits in a fire today.” Who would be dumb enough to do that? Who won the last election? |

Oh, this is gonna be epic. Fucking with people will just be too easy.
Case in point: I have a co-worker who is...let's say "sensitive"...to changes in his normal everyday environment. The carpet in our office area is comprised of squares, which can be lifted up and replaced...or rotated. And they all have a pattern, but it's not a quickly visible pattern, it's really subtle. Just to screw with him, every now and again one of us will randomly rotate a square of carpet somewhere along his normal trip into the office to his desk. When we do this, he will generally take 2 or 3 steps past the rotated square, and just stop. Flat out, full stop, immobile. He will stand there for a few minutes trying to figure out what the hell is out of place...usually within 5 minutes he figures out it was a rotated carpet square and it's all "ha-ha that's funny guys" and so on. Once we rotated the square underneath his chair. That day was hysterical
Anyway...with LED carpets? Oh, this is gonna be fun

Neat! Paint still seems cheaper though..... ![]() Much easier to reprogram the sign whenever the event changes. I liked the "Do Not Disturb," notice in the hotel. The first thing I thought of was the fire exit signs. This system could also be immediately changed to direct people to a different exit if one of them was blocked. Too bad there are no more Pink Floyd and Grateful Dead shows. They could have all kinds of fun with the stoners with this. |
