I paid $400 for mine.

To be fair it has a bit of holster wear at the muzzle, but damn did it spoil me on other wheel guns.

No, not worth it. An older 586 will be a more robust revolver at a fraction of the cost.

That might be a touch high right now, but Colt revolver prices, especially the Pythons, have been rocketing up for several years now with no end in sight.  I'm sure you'll have no problem getting your money back out of it if you need to, if not now than a year of two from now for sure.

That being said, no, it isn't "worth" that much... the Python is one of the most overrated handguns of all time.

They are wonderful guns.
I wouldn't dream of dropping that much for one.

They have one of the sweetest double action trigger pulls I have ever felt........but I could shoot my old 686 Smith better.

The price on them have been going crazy the last few years.  The day of the sub-$1000 python is over, unless its a really trashed beater.

If its in excellent shape you probably didn't do too bad.  Did it come with the box/paperwork?

As several of the Colt collectors on coltforum say ... you don't pay too much, you just sometimes pay too early ... even if you paid too much, the price will soon catch up and pass what you paid for a classic colt :).

I wouldn't pay that much for a python.

More finely made than a 586/686, but less robust.  The trigger will be a personal preference.

Price is a matter of how bad you want one. I don't want one that bad.

It wouldn't be worth to me, and yes I own a 6" stainless python.

I should say though, that's if it's worth it to you buy it. It's a good investment, and a heck of nice gun.
