Reid moves toward invoking nuclear option in Senate

Washington (CNN) - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, frustrated by Republicans who have been blocking President Barack Obama's nominees, Thursday moved to introduce the so-called nuclear option.

The controversial move is a rules change that could make a partisan environment even more divisive because it would take away a sacrosanct right for any party in the Senate minority–the right to filibuster.

"That's why it's time to get the Senate working again," Reid said. "Not for the good of the current Democratic majority or some future Republican majority, but for the good of the United States of America. It's time to change. It's time to change the Senate before this institution becomes obsolete."...

...Under current rules it takes 60 votes to break a filibuster. The rule change would allow most Obama nominees to be confirmed by 51 votes–a simple Senate majority...

Not any that the House would touch, except to wipe their ass with.

Although Boehner may prove to be a Quisling yet again.

Once you've eliminated the filibuster in one area of legislative activity, its won't be long before the new "rule" is used elsewhere.

Don't worry...it isn't like the establishment GOP will actually do anything if Reid does go this route.  I'm sure they've already given it their blessing.

With the way Obamacare is going the Democrats aren't going to gain more senate seats in 2014, and it's possible that they could lose senate control.

So they probably want to get the nominees through now, else they're never getting seated.

Senate majority leaders have been threatening to use the nuclear option for twenty years.  It's all political theater.  Reid knows he may be in the minority some day and he's not about to give up that weapon.

Sounds like the Dems are worried about keeping the Senate and want to RAM through a big batch of lefty judicial appointments who will bless the martial law and cancellation of elections.

It passed - the filibuster is dead.
Hopefully they become the minority party in 2014 & stay there for a long time.

Hopefully the first order of business after this election is to repeal Zero-care with 51 votes, then "deem" Zero's veto to be overridden by the 2/3 majority.

Yep, we're past 23:58 now easily with this move.  No suits against the regime will advance in coming years and the DOJ will be able to get away with whatever BS it wants.

I'm not at all surprised that it is Harry Reid who has taken us here.

Only the Democrats would give ScrewBama less restraint in light of his proven ability to make the worst decisions ever for the American citizen.  This could truly backfire in their stupid faces should the Republicans take back the Senate in 2014.  One can only make this happen by voting in the next election.

No. It means they will work even harder to use whatever control they have to increase their chances of winning 2014 elections. The push for amnesty will be relentless. I suspect that this messing with the judiciary will turn out in some way to be related to the elections.

edit:

n/m the article states:

Of course the feckless Republicans will just roll over and say "never mind" we will just count on KenyanKare to take down the Demoncraps.

Nevermind this is a direct assault on the Republic as the demoncraps and RINOs try to turn it into an imperial democracy.  There are 60% rules there to protect the minority from being totally sidelined by a majority of 51%.

Also the "...rule change would not apply...".  statement can easily be circumvented by just tagging each bill put out of Senate committee with an "appropriation" or some other quaifier like some other court clerk nomination somewhere.

Remember when Repubs threatened to do it?  The media HOWLED about it EVERY DAY until repubs backed down.  Now?  I haven't heard the media use "nuclear option."  Just "rule change."  Fucking leftist media is complicit.  Remember that.

If the R's had any balls they would cite the "Reid rule" & require only a simple majority for a conviction - then impeach both Zero & Biden for treason, high crimes, & misdemeanors.
SOTH becomes POTUS & repeals everything.
Then the R's can put the Senate rules back the way they were.

Yup. Executive branch bureaucrat rule making. Eliminate NFA trusts, FFL inventory and sale reporting requirements like their 4 border States rule. Sporting purpose re-interpretation. Directing CDC to create anti gun "studies." Import restrictions. Not limited to gun control. Also new rules on obamatax exemptions/requirements, employment, labor, unions, energy, epa, co2 regulation, immigration, illegal alien entitlements, voter ID, recess appointments, dodd frank finance rule making .... Dems want to stack the DC court with ultra leftwing progressive rubber stamps now because that court hears federal issues. The most transparent administration in history

That's why Alan Gura, John Bolton, the NRA and Thomas Sowell joined Romney/Ryan
