| Hey guys i recently got a lower from a buddy of mine and the beffer detent needs to be replaced. this dumbass used loctite 290 (green/wicking) on the buffer tube threads and the castle nut. How do I get this off to replace the buffer detent without hurting the lower? Heat gun work? |

I removed a Rock River buffer tube screw, and tube that had been red loctited.
I put some Kroil on the screw and a wide edge screwdriver did the trick. The buffer tube I soaked in more Kroil, then hit it with the girlfriends hair dryer for about 20 minutes. Presto! |
| ok guys so i got a heat gun today..got it from ace hardware and it says on the high setting it will go to 1000 degree and on low 750. I really dont want to screw up this lower and those are some high heats. So how long shall i hold the heat to this tube. Can someone please give me some instrucitons? |
| In my armorer's class, we were instructed to heat it slowly, moving the heat source around the castle nut. When the nut just barely starts to smoke, lay off the heat, and give it a try. It may take a few applications. I had a particularly hard one once that took several applications of heat. |
