Do you want pc functionality in a tablet format? Pick windows 8. Do you want tablet functionality in a tablet format? Pick Android... I have no experience with windows 8 but it would seem to be windows with a somewhat lackluster ui. This is the correct answer. Although, 'pc functionality' in a tablet is not really possible. PC functionality pretty much requires a (functional) keyboard, mouse and a screen with 1600+ resolution. Android does the tablet-able stuff nicely |

Quoted: You are really dumb. Fo real. Quoted: Quoted: Idiot: iOS Smart, like to customize: Android You are really dumb. Fo real. If you are computer/tech illiterate aka an idiot, you go with iOS because you basically can't do anything to screw it up. If you are computer/tech savvy aka smart and you like to customize stuff, you go with android because the entire OS was built on the idea of customization. I have both...all things equal, Android wins hands down.

That is a terribly myopic view of the tablets, and pretty much nullifies the quality of advice you have on the matter. iOS makes for a fantastic tablet experience, a great hardware platform, superb app ecosystem. Saying that only an idiot would choose that platform, makes YOU the idiot. The iPad platform is really, really good. Just because you want to do things that many don't, doesn't make you better, nor does it make the android better. I have played with Android tablets for years. Many times the user experience was pitiful. They have improved with recent offerings, all the while the iOS offerings have been rock solid. You just oversimplified it, and regurgitated a bunch of crap you read somewhere. Or, you are a hipster, and hate something just because everyone else likes it. |

Its for my girlfriends 11 year old daughter. Her X is supposedly a "tech guy" and keeps insisting on a Windows 8 based system. But he's also a pussy
What system for an 11 year old girl ??? Thanks Im going to go out on a limb here and say that as long as it does Facebook, YouTube and plays music.....an 11yr old wont care what the OS is. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
Your analysis of tablet computing is so narrow-minded and simplistic that I sincerely hope no one in this thread takes anything you have to say about this seriously. It is a disservice to people who want useful insight for you to be spouting this nonsense. Quoted:

I haven't played with anything faster or smoother than the iPad. It's easy to use and never crashes or randomly resets(like lots of the android tablets will do from time to time).
Although I haven't played with the latest android tablets...and I love my droid phone. I chose the iPad mini. |

Until MS builds up an app inventory it's DOA. what are the "must have apps" that are missing for you? There are a few but that isn't the point. What I am saying there isn't broad interest in the RT platform for developers, at least not yet. The number one platform is iOS because of market share and usability. Microsoft is essentially trying to copy Apple's business model. I think they are too late in the game for that. |

Have Android, will retire soon replacing with Windows 8.1 Surface Pro 2 also, for travel use.
Office is one big reason, neither iOS or Android have that, and Open Office or other Office want-to-be sucks beans. Another reason is the i5 processor, much better processor than any Android or Apple tablet can offer. One thing I will miss is the Google Nav on a full size tablet screen. I will have to get used to use my Android phone or the build in Nav in the cars. |
| First let me say that I absolutely hate Apple on many fronts. Their politics, their walled garden, the fact that they lock down their devices so that it forces you into their revenue models, etc... But they still make the best tablet hardware. The new iPad air that I am using now is a fraction of the weight of the surface. Apple's capacitive touch is the fastest of all tablets which makes it have a more responsive UI. Apple also has the largest selection of quality apps available on any tablet platform. Many of the issues I hate have apps and work a rounds that allow me to deal with those inconvienances. Now all the Android believers will tout the openness and customizability of that OS and they are correct. That is the reason I switched from an iPhone to an Samsung Galaxy phone. But at the end of the day, Android tablets are a train wreck in comparison to Windows RT and IOS. I do run Windows 8 Pro on a VM on a MacBook Air and it runs damn fast even in a VM container. All in all, the development stack for Windows RT is sound, but I am not sure that the RT product is going to get the user base appeal that Microsoft needs to con tune the product line. I think many developers like me watched the launch of this product fail miserably, seen the manufactures pull out, they are probably not wanting to commit investment dollars into another potential Zune product. This is a catch 22 for Microsoft. |
