I have reviewed previous posts on this subject, but would like some feedback on the ideas for building my own.

I'm starting with bare 2x6 studs in a corner closet, so two walls have spray foam insulation.

My plan is to cover studs and ceiling with 6x6 (10 ga.) welded-wire mesh, then a layer of expanded-metal  plaster lath, followed by a thick plaster scratch coat with high sand content (to dull saw blades quicker) followered with a layer of Type-X sheetrock, or 10 ga. steel if budget allows.

I know the power of a Sawsall, and also the power of hydraulic spreaders and plasma torches, too, but this is not the Pentagon, either.  There will be an alarm with local noise and cell phone dialer triggered by a PIR motion detector, with external keypad.  The entire project will cost the equivalent of 4-years of premiums for a homeowners gun rider ($400 per year, determined by declared value, which is high.) because of doing the labor (except plaster) myself.

Door would be solid wood panel type with inside covered with steel plate.  Two high-security deadbolts on the latch side, going into MAG box-strikes with 4' screws.  Hinge side will be exposed  hinges (ball-bearing type to support extra weight of door) with fixed pins.  Hinge side will also be drilled for passive dead bolts that go into reinforced holes into the hinge-side framing members.

Alternative lock would be what I've heard called a "police lock" which has vertical bolts on the inside that engage box strikes top and bottom.  There will be a medium-size gun safe lag-bolted to floor. I only own three rifles which won't fit in the safe since it's at capacity with handguns.

Suggestions?

Buy a $1200 gun safe and put it into your walk-in closet.

I really think you will get more enjoyment from digging a deep pit in you basement.

I know I would, anyway.

This option allows you to take the security with you if you ever move...

Just line the inside with steel plate.

Are you trying to lock yourself inside, so you don't come out of the closet?

The door is the weak point.

I agree! I think the safe would be the cheaper and better option!

I can see where this is going so ill offer some hard learned words of wisdom..

Never store your hookers and blow in the same location...

You end up with dead hookers and no blow......
