I never seen a book get liberals so enraged. Same with Atlas Shrugged.

I never noticed that they did. Yeah, they don't like Atlas Shrugged.

Is this one of those cases where you like something, so you assume liberals must hate it because you can't see yourself ever liking something that liberals do?

I think another -10% off their food rations should do nicely to quell the stronger squealers.

They do like 1984. That is why they make you read it in high school.

Same reason a football coach doesn't want the coaches of the other teams reading his playbook.

I honestly have no clue, as I don't engage in literary discussions (or any other discussions if I can avoid it) with liberals.

Based on what do you think/imagine that "liberals hate the book 1984 so much"?
|
|
They like 1984 because they think it serves as a warning against a right wing totalitarian state. little do the idiots know they are blindly voting in a left wing totalitarian state.

I wasn't aware that liberals disliked "1984." George Orwell was a Socialist. He wrote "1984" as a cautionary tale against Stalinism and other forms of totalitarianism. Don't forget that he fought in Spain against Franco's fascists.

In my experience it is only the true socialist revolutionary types that get uncomfortable around 1984. Your typical democrat has not made the connection, or connected it to something more comfortable for them, like Bush.

View Quote This is one of the reviews on Amazon for the Atlas Shrugged audio CD: "Two world-class drama queens: Scott Brick and Ayn Rand together at last! The narration perfectly reflects Rand's petulant narcissism and didactic insistence that only SHE ever Got It Right. The ideal gift for those hard to please don't-tread-on-me Tea Party pals." |

Just want to point out that George Orwell was a communist, and fought with communist forces in the Spanish Civil War. 1984 and Animal Farm are novels inspired by a criticism of Stalinism, not Marxism in general, which is why Snowball represents Trotsky and Old Major represents both Lenin and Marx.

liberals love that book....so do conservatives.....everyone thinks it doesn't apply to their own little brand of authoritarianism
the proles? yea...thats most americans...and you |

What? No they love the shit out of it. Freedom is Slavery are words they live by. The responsibility that comes with being free is so burdensome that the government must step in and free us from the shackles of personal accountability.

Just think of how easy Winston Smith's job would be today with the internet. Less and less printed news, and an ever growing online audience. iPads in schools which can change textbooks at a keystroke.

The mistake a lot of people make about 1984 is thinking that it's some kind of treatise against left-wing governments. All of the stuff Oceania does in the book is based on the real-life behaviors of the totalitarian governments of the time Orwell wrote it. "Ingsoc"is a composite of Nazism, Italian Fascism, Spanish Fascism, and Stalinism. All of which Orwell experienced first hand when he went to Spain to fight on behalf of the communist revolutionaries.

Based on what do you think/imagine that "liberals hate the book 1984 so much"? View Quote This is a good question. I've never met anyone who would have professed to detest 1984. Never read Atlas Shrugged, but I have heard consistent literary criticism which suggests that it's long-winded and badly written. No-one has ever said that about anything Orwell ever wrote. BTW, recommended reading: Orwell's essays. |

liberals just like and dislike things as they see it fit their agenda. GOP in office, 1984 shows how we will all live under a totalitarian regime. Dem's in office, 1984 is a stupid book and Orwell was a kook. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.
