Is anyone else tired of the modern shooters, and missing WWII ones?  I got started gaming on CoD and CoD:UO and I'm missing those days.

I got burned out on Unreal Tournament and haven't tried once since then...

Yep,  I really like the WW 2 era shooters.  Especially the European theater games.  Alas, I don't have the time to play much anymore.

my only complaint is that they are almost all tailored for multiplayer these days it seems.

I like the modern style more than WWII, waiting for PS4 to get the newest Battlefield 4.

People complained there were too many WW2 shooters, now they complain there aren't enough.

I give up.

BF4 is crazy for the graphics and vehicles, COD World at War was fun for the challenge.

I was too, but you can buy the PS3 version and then download the PS4 version for 10 bucks...  It's amazing by the way!

Tired of the MMO crap.

BF1942 and BF2 are where I stopped, the single player in those was lots of fun.  No getting caught up in straight-line campaigns and waiting for cut-scenes (BF:BC2).

Kind of burned me out for gaming.

I really like COD Modern Warfare the first one.  Second one loses me on the Multiplayer with the knifing from across the room BS.  That still pisses me off.  Been playing it more lately and realize either everyone got really good at the game or I got really shitty at it.  I'm leaning to "I got shitty at it" though.

I still have not even opened my Battlefield 3 game yet.  Nor have I completed Halo 4 yet.  I think I have 3 games I have barely played, but I have a job, a wife, long list of house projects and a baby on the way so I guess thats a good excuse.

32, married

i started playing the original COD way back when. burned out on the WW2 stuff.

years later started playing the modern warfare on PS3. i finally broke down and started playing online against others when COD BO2 came out last year. been addicted ever since.

looking forward to ghosts and BF4 when i get my PS4.

i get some enjoyment out of the people who are total wannabees who talk in mil terms, but are clearly living in their parents basements.

Still waiting on Doom 4 and UT 4.

Never did get in to CoD or Battlefield.

Try Battleground Europe for the PC. I played it for years. It's fun. Graphics aren't that good and if you want the good toys you have to pay. You can get a free account and play limited infantry, vehicles, equipment etc though. I got sick of feeling like I was paying for a non-stop beta test though. It's just one big ass server of the western front. Germans, British, French, and even Americans now. It is pretty time consuming though and has a high learning curve.

Red Orchestra for steam is fantastic, especially if you can get 1-2 other people to play with you to help crew vehicles or support you if you are a LMG. Being able to keep an MG42 up and running during an assault is an amazing thing.

I still play BF1942 on my xbox360 when I get a hankering for WW2 stuff. CoD:World at War was really fun but kind of crappier compared to other CoD titles. It was a nice change of pace to the modern FPS games though. The Battlefield Vietnam expansion to BF Bad Companyn 2 was a blast as well.

Other fun non-FPS war games I've liked are Battlestations:Midway and Pacific. A little quirky but fun in short doses. Toy Soldiers is pretty fun too but is more of an arcade 3rd person strategy wave game. R.U.S.E. is a pretty fun real time strategy game too. You can control things from the micro to macro level on the battlefield.

With these newer FPS engines out there it would be really awesome to make a new WW2 game. I think a Red Orchestra port over to the xbox one/ps4 would be awesome with the additional number of online players those systems can support. There's already an amazing array of infantry and larger vehicle based maps and the weapons realism is better than just about any other FPS out there.

A lot of the infantry combat in Vietnam would probably not be very conducive to good gameplay.  It would also be extremely hard to hit the current demanded visual quality, from a technical standpoint.  Jungles are not forgiving things to create for games.

WWII shooters were ridiculously overdone for about a decade. There's only so many Omaha Beaches you can storm before it gets a little samey.

I'll take futuristic shooters, or at least over the top arena shooters, thanks. At least they have some art direction to take and can be either "realistic" or zany. Leaves more leeway for good gameplay.

I want a realistic shooter, something that has not happened yet.  Not mixed guns with subjective handling/performance and guns that fire the same round yet have wildly different damage output and nearly the identical cyclic rates.  Ridiculous dispersion on full auto, games that do not seem to track any hits except the first round of each burst, no selector settings, no surface/cover penetration, players survive 3 rounds to the head, etc.

Fighting through dense jungle against enemies who are all but invisible 20 meters away would get old fast, a little too much reality for twitch gamers who have no concept of what happens in a real gun fight.

The only 1st person I keep coming back to are the STALKER games.  I find these the most challenging games, especially when modded.  Stalker:Call of Pripyat is probably my most favorite PC shooter of all time.

I have never been a battlefield guy just never played it and got BF4 last week to see what it was all about. I cant stand it there are far far too many cut scenes that you cant skip over and you have to damn near empty a mag into the opfor before they die. Granted some are wearing armor but damn. I havent done the multiplayer part of it just yet but what I have played so far I am not impressed. I have spent more than half my time watching these stupid cut scenes.

I want more FPS SINGLE PLAYER games. Fuck MMOs.

The only multiplayer game I like is L4D and L4D2. Coop is a lot more fun for me than PvP.

My most recent purchase was:

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 (Not bad, and in hard mode you have to judge windspeed, drop etc yourself. Siberian campaign addon out there as well.

Biggest problem with the game itself was the constant switch to video for some movements (like climbing over a wall) was annoying.... and the game was WAY too short.

Borderlands 1/2 have very fun co-op. They're very silly and not serious at all, but if you liked L4D there is a good chance you would like BL.

Yeah, I have BL1 and BL, like the games ok, but I hate the coop because it becomes about loot grabbing and hurt feelings OR it is a constant "stop and discuss who should get what" boondoggle.

Then you get the guys who are gear queens and have to spend ten minutes comparing it to their inventory and calculating the stats to see if it might be 1 point better.

Buying Battlefield for the single player campain is like buying Hustler for the literary significance. 99.99999% of the point of Battlefield is the multiplayer.

64 player wars with full vehicles, and maps big enough to support jet fighters. Making a 4-man squad with your buddies on voice chat, loading up in a chopper and flying into an objective you're trying to take. That's what BF is about.
