| I've got 3 that I was told had to come out about 12 years ago. I still have them but, one is starting bother me(It is breaking through the gum). The pain is bearable but, is getting annoying. Take them out or live with them? |
| All of mine should have come out when I was 15 but I waited. I had braces as a kid and since I didn't have the Wisdom teeth taken out it kind of messed up my formerly straight teeth. Take them out. It will probably save you quite a bit of trouble in the long run. |
|
I've got two that have been comming in on the bottom, but they are comming in sideways. The tops of them are pushing against the sides of the other teeth. Usually they don't hurt, but every once in a while they get sore and hurt for a week or so. I had two teeth pulled when I was younger and I vowed never again because it sucked so much. I'll probably keep them unless the pain becomes constant and unbearable. |

1GUN, I waited to have mine pulled since they were not really giving me any trouble. Just occassional food particles going under the gumline and wedging by the teeth. I decided to go ahead and have mine yanked to avoid any problems in the future. Face it, you have a complete tooth, with its enamel surface in an area where you cannot remove bacteria by brushing, or by gargling. Have the dentist send you to an oral surgeon and get them to knock you out. The pain is bearable. You will not be able to eat much for a week, and for two or three weeks after you will have to be careful about eating hard foods, chips, sharp edges etc. I don't miss mine at all. Better oral hygiene and no concerns about a major abscess one day. Save the teeth, they are interesting conversation pieces... |

Quoted: 1GUN, Save the teeth, they are interesting conversation pieces... Without a doubt, save the teeth! I saved all my wisdom teeth, and 1 is in my wallet now, 'just in case'. 1 wound up in a prissy date's soup, and another woung up on a liberal politico's soup. The 3rd kept me from having to pay for a lousy, overpriced meal at an expensive restaurant. Never know when a tooth can bail you out! |
| The goat is right on. Get them yanked out by an oral surgeon. THey'll put you under and It'll be over before you know it. If you don't, they may also make the rest of your teeth pushed together and crooked. AGAIN, do not let your dentist yank them, go to an oral surgeon..... |
|
yeah, my oral surgeon told me that as you get older, they will bother you more, and become more painful. Get those puppies yanked. I was put under via IV, and I remember opening my eyes a few times, but he gave me a kick ass local, and I couldn't feel shit. Felt groggy after, but about a month later, I feel fine. I felt fine a few days after. Mild soreness on the bottom jaw, but the vicatin he gave me took care of that. :) |
| IT is inevitable.. they will cause you problems sooner or later. They are much easier to take out earlier in life. As you get older, they set in place and it's more of a pain. I had mine taken out when i was 20. It didn't hurt a bit. Or course, they had me floating on a cloud of codine for days. Ahh... it was great. |

Don't go to an oral surgeon. Have the dentist pull them like I did. They don't get to put you under so you get to hear them cutting your wisdom teeth into quarters before tearing them out of your gums. I even got to witness my blood splattering onto dentists face shield! On second thought, maybe you should go to the surgeon[:)] I agree with all the above on getting them pulled. Your mouth will thank you for it. |
| I just had mine yanked on Friday (11/15/02). Went to the surgeon at 8:45, I was leaving at 9:15 minus 4 teeth. I have four big holes in my mouth, but very little pain or discomfort. I have not even needed the maxidone that was prescribed for pain. Cannot eat a whole hell of a lot, but after first day you can chew with front teeth. Overall, good experience and less painful than having them. |

Quoted: Now the cocksuckers tell me I need a referral from a dentist. I was referred 12 yrs ago. The fact that the SOB is hurting and needs to come out makes no difference. The bastards just want to spread the (my)wealth. Fuck 'em I'll dig it out myself. Come on over 1GUNRUNNER. I've got a chainsaw and a ball pein hammer. We'll get those suckers! |
| Hey 1 gun.. good to hear from ya again. How was the huntin trip? My wife is going through about the same thing. Tomorrow she's getting 1 pulled and a root canal! Better her than me! Too bad I have to pay the bill. Hope your's doesn't cause you too much of a problem. |

I shouldn't bitch that much, I have insurance. I called the last Dentist I remember going to in the states. (I've gone to a dentist in Cabo a couple of times - $20 to fix fillings) My last dentist here says they have copies of x-rays taken in '86 from another dentist. They do have notes of recommendations of removal of wisdom teeth. I told the receptionist that since I needed them removed then I probably still need them removed now. She then precedes to tell me that since it has been so long that I will need be seen as new patient with full exam, new x-rays and other expensive procedures. We finished our conversation with the fact that I could have my penis surgically removed and have the area restructured into a crude vagina but, to take out my wisdom teeth I am gonna need a referral. |
| Had 2 removed eons ago before I had braces (for 4.5 years I might add). The other 2 have been the subject of many discussions with my dentist. He wants them out, but since they aren't buggin' me, I say they stay. They have never come through the skin, and I'm not fond of having them cut out from under the skin like the first pair was. Good luck which ever way you decide. But... BUT, it isn't gonna get any better on its own. |

Extract them!! According to dentists, wisdom teeth have no functions whatsoever: 1. The last teeth (in the back), so one can not use them to chew. 2. But food can stuck in there and create problems, like TRG's situ. I know, so why the hell God create them for? Don't know. Maybe, God is not perfect after all. I said Maybe, OK?[:D] As far as going to whom: if your wisdom teeth are branched at the feet or curved, then surgeon is the way to go. Otherwise, general dentist should do the trick. An X-ray from gen. dentist would reveal how complicate the extraction. |
