I just installed mIRC and I'm trying to figure out how to grab a file from another user.

This chick sent me this message (below); however, I'm a newbie using this program and didn't know what I was doing.  She said it's easier to file share in IRC than through Kazaa, but so far mIRC is confusing to me.

Which is the channel window? How do I work this darn thing? anyone?

-thx

To grab a file, from me, type: !mynick exact filename (in a channel window)
or copy and paste a corresponding line to a channel I'm in.

I'll try to help you out here.. what you need to do is go to the CHANNEL where she is..

then you type:
!Auzzie^Kate (bon_jovi)_-_cross_road_-_02_-_keep_the_faith.mp3

basically the "!Auzzie^Kate" part is like you literrally walking into a room and shouting "KATE!" she hears it (or in irc SEE's it) then reads what is after it.. which so happens to be the file you want, then she sends it.. sometimes you will have to allow her to send you things tho, so in your MAIN STATUS window (this is the first window that is allways open when you start MIRC you type

Dccallow +Auzzie^Kate

or whatever the persons nick/name is.. that will tell your client that you accept files from her.. sometimes you dont have to do this.. but sometimes you do, its better to do it BEFORE you request the file from her or else it will reject on her end and you'll have to wait untill the slot reopens and have to request your file AGAIN...

I hope this helps... Irc is alot harder for a newbie to understand than kazaa ever would be.. I totally recommend winmx... www.winmx.com

To accept DCC transfers, do this

On the File menu go to on DCC > Options and set your settings as follows

1. Send Request > Auto get File
If auto get and file exists > Resume

2. Then in DCC menu go to Folders then DCC ignore and choose disabled and uncheck the turn ignore back on in

3. And click ok then quit the program and restart the program.

You will return to the same first screen. Click on Connect to the IRC Server
