I love this movie. Has anyone here ever read the book that it is based upon?
Is it worth the read? |

Is the book the same name? I might have to pick it up as well. http://www.amazon.com/First-Blood-David-Morrell/dp/0446364401 Yup |
| Our High School library had this book back in the 70's,after the first person read it,the book became impossible to check out because every one wanted it.I can't imagine this book being found in a HS library today.Of course we also all had gun racks with our rifles displayed at all times also.Great book.yjmcb |

I haven't read the book in years but it is a great read, I literally couldn't put it down once I started reading. While attending the University of Iowa in 1979 I took a literature course because David Morrell the author of First Blood was the professor. I got shot below the knee with a .22lr in a hunting accident and was unable to finish the semester. I had to meet all my professors to drop my courses and thus had an opportunity to have a discussion with Mr. Morrell. He was still a relatively unknown author at that time and I told him that I considered First Blood to be fantastic novel. Talked a bit about Kurt Vonnegut and Ayn Rand and then he proceeded to inquire about my gunshot wound, like what it felt like and how I responded physiologically. He is very well versed on firearms and espionage techniques. He has written many great novels since First Blood including Brotherhood of the Rose and Fraternity of the Stone.
Interestingly, in 1979 he had just sold the movie rights for First Blood and told me that Steve McQueen was going to play Rambo. That obviously didn't happen and Sylvester Stallone made the role famous. Thanks for the reminder and I think I will read it again as it is vastly different from the movie in some regards. It is definitely a case of the book is better than the movie. |
