The ARMY could probably embed better.

Is this some sort of Zen thing? |

I'm just a stupid National Guardsman and even I know how to embed. Well of course you guys can figure that shit out. It's not like you do anything else.

I'm just a stupid National Guardsman and even I know how to embed. Wow, that NCO is a douche. There is no training value in that, he is just showing his ass. I'd wager he got his balls crushed after the cadets' chain of command viewed that video and made some phone calls to their sister service. |

If I had been the cadets' officer, perhaps observing from the sidelines, I would have very calmly approached Mr. Aneurysm and quietly tell him to take a 5 minute walk/smoke break. Then I instruct the guy in charge of the formation to march the platoon off the field as I find the OIC/NCOIC of the event in order to withdraw the team. I explain why, show the tape, and they can deal with that individual as they see fit. Wouldn't be the first time I told somebody to take a walk when I felt they were out of line...if I have to explain myself to the old man about my rational thats OK...done that too. I cannot think of any SNCO I have known (granted in the Army, not Marines) that would approve of that behavior in public. In private is an entirely different matter. Finally, by reading the comments found by clicking on the author's name it appears the OIC of the event allowed the team to retest and subsequently placed third. It also appears that a G.O. observed the whole thing and had the NCO "for lunch" whatever that means. There is a time/place for an NCO to act as he sees fit, but that isn't it IMO. |

If some guy started yelling at me like that...at this point in my career...I would start laughing at him. Pretty much. I can count on one hand the number of times I have "went off" on somebody in my career. None of the serious ass-chewings I have given (and received) involved a great deal of yelling. That part was taken care off behind closed doors in the 1SG/CSM's office. I have concluded that "the pen is mightier" (+1 to SNL Jeopardy) and appropriate (proper) corrective training is far more effective for handling discipline problems. Repeat offenders don't last long with a thick counseling packet. To be fair, I am not a NCO and none of that really applies to a parade field, but that guy should have saved the full metal jacket impersonation for later. Just my opinion, take it for what its worth. |

I don't disagree the guy was being an asshole, but until I read the comments I didn't know that this was out of the norm. Given that context I completely agree with you. My alma matter had a competitive drill team and they talked about this kind of stuff so I just assumed this was part of the program so to speak. |

When in a muiti-service drill competition teams will follow the regs of their service nit the whims of the grader. That means commands are different. The Army will use "Rear, March" as opposed to the Marines using "To the rear, March" and so on. That also applies to greetings and responses.
The NCO is either completely ignorant of that.... Or cadre from a competing school assigned as a grader and attempting to submarine that team. |
