I know I'm getting old, and this might be part of my problem, but DJs? I just don't understand it or them. I know there's probably some level of talent here that I just don't understand. Maybe I just need to take some of the good stuff before trying to lisiten to it.
Here is a video of a DJ remixing Tosh.0's rant. Facebook Link http://tosh.comedycentral.com/episodes/fmcn32/september-24--2013---bad-dj <--- Tosh's DJ rant. Skip to 5:00. I'm 100% sure there's NSFW content in there somewhere. It's Tosh.0

There's a bunch of different types of DJs...some do some extremely creative things and others are essentially human jukeboxes. EDM DJs tend to do mixes that would seem unimpressive to the untrained ear..and that's kind of the point - to create a seamless mix of music that results in non stop dancing. Hip Hop DJs are scratchers and slammers. Scratching is hard, in my opinion, so I have the utmost respect for guys that can scratch well. I hate slamming - a wy of mixing two songs that entails the DJ moving gthe crossfader quickly from one deck to the other. It's glorified track skipping, in my opinion. Then you get guys like A-Trak that are great DJs and have a great set of skills when it comes to word play, scratching and mixing and do it all seamlessly. I guess it depends on the type of DJ you like, but look up videos/mixes by DJ AM, A-Trak, and Jazzy Jeff. It'll open your eyes a bit to what a good dj does and is.
ETA: as for your video: as a DJ, I don't find it particularly impressive in any aspect. Just a guy having fun. |

A lot of this pretty spot on, a good hip hop DJ is really something fun to watch & hear, like this. DJ I-DEE Lady Sovereign juggle There are also house DJ's that can really cut things up, like Bad Boy Bill, observe. Bad Boy Bill And a good trance or techno DJ is the best, unfortunately trance & techno have lost their soul's |
