I don't know if anyone has seen this yet but this looks like a really cool option for a nightstand safe for under $200 that uses RFID/Biometric scanners to open. I think the cheapest option is $180. Thoughts?

A lot of good gun safes are battery operated.

They're quicker to open, reliable, and the batteries last a year or more.

Battery backup, it has a power connector.

I like the idea of having a ring that opens it, really convenient. Are there any other safes that operate that way?

Something about the phrase "Defend Responsibly" is making my spidey sense tingle.

I agree,I'm not a fan of anything electronic on a safe. It's just a problem waiting to happen IMO.

Yeah. me and batteries were not made for each other.

However, I bought a Barska biometric safe a few years ago because of my living conditions. It was under $200. It has been remarkably reliable.

It has a relatively hidden manual access if you let the batteries die. I change batteries once a year and have never had them die. I also only open the thing a couple times a year.

I got it through Amazon on sale. I'm very pleased with it. I keep a pistol, spare mag and a couple of SureFires in it. It's roomy, could put six pistols in it if I wanted to.

Just make sure you mash you thumb over the sensor the same way every time. I really jam it in there figuring if I ever need it I'm going to adrenaline dumping and blading at 45 degrees.

As said before if you don't trust batteries it has two usb ports on the side which I believe can be used to power cellphones, ipads etc and you plug it directly into the wall to do so.

So this is just an idea at this stage, a pre-order for a (currently) non-existent product?
