I put some furniture for sale on Craigslist in Pittsburgh and I keep getting replies from people with weird email addresses asking for me to contact them with my price and terms.

My price is listed on the ad

examples:

Mail Mike014ted(at)gmail.com with your price & your payment terms

Sumak237(at)gmail.com is where to reach me with your selling price i am ready to pay for this.

Are these people legit?  or am I getting trolled?

What is the scam???

Anyone from Craigslist that isn't going to meet you somewhere and pay cash is scamming you.

If they don't know that, they're scamming you.

I ignore anything except for emails that are directly related to closing the sale.

They aren't even typing out that email.  At best, it's a copy/paste being applied to any and all ads looking for the "mark".

ETA:

That's why they're asking you for the price...because it's already been scripted.

ETA X 2:

Email them back insisting that they send you a few thousand dollars more than the item is listed for and that you would prefer to send the difference via Western Union while keeping a small portion of the excess as payment for the extra work.

It's probably the usual scam where they will send you more than asking price and ask you to return the difference by Western Union.  They often say their "shipper" will be by to pick it up as they are almost always out of the country on business.

Same thing here...did some garage cleanout...found an old Ford Code scanner, an OBD II scanner (didn't work for the newer Kia, so I replaced it), a Windstar tie rod end....and got the exact same e-mail on ALL of the listings...

"Get back to me with your direct email".

Don't listen to any of these guys. Craigslist is one of the most legitimate sites on the intwerweb. Hell, everyone knows that.

I have bought and sold a lot of stuff on Craigs, including quads, vehicles, toy haulers, car parts, etc.  It sure as fuck is a legitmate website.

Scammers come in all forms and through all media.

It is cute, however, when someone posts it up on the arfcom like they just woke up from a coma and think this is the first time it ever happened to anyone and it is something new.

I've sold dozens of vehicles on Craigslist and get scam texts like that by the dozen.  They're not that hard to spot and I immediately delete them.

It's a lot more boring than that.  They want you to email them at a non-Craigslist email address from your non-Craigslist email address.  Then, they'll sell your email address to other scumbags.

Anyone that sells something on CL is going to get those. It happens. Throw the email in the trash and don't respond. Move on to legit replies.
