"Liberty Stands Still", Wesley Snipes and Linda Fiorentino, http://us.imdb.com/Title?0280870. Direct to video--no theater release for this puppy. CIA agent loses his daughter in a school shooting, and decides to hold hostage the wife of a wealthy gun maker to make a point. ("Guns are bad", in case you haven't guessed.) The gun maker is portrayed as wealthy, which is encouraging, in a way. The fact is the margins in the gun market are razor thin and nobody makes all that much money. This shows that our enemy has fundamental misconceptions of us; our strength is in gun owners; we're not led around by gun makers. (Unless it's Cav Arms. They've been real annoying ever since they got those orbital mind control lasers.) |

Another sucky movie for it's portrayal of guns is Showtime.. Was pretty funny, but if people actually believe the stuff in there, I'm afraid. I think i glimpsed someone holding a .50 BMG shell and purporting it came out of a handheld full-auto SMG type weapon. Then they went on to say it was 30 gauge or some meaningless nonsense, even though it clearly fired bullets in brass cases, not shot or slugs. It might not of been a .50 BMG shell, but it was a big rifle cart of some type, didnt get a good look at it. Then it has the typical gun show stereotypes in it. All around, pretty damn stupid. |

The best part was when Snipes's character says something like, "I was going to blame the killer, but I decided that it would be better to blame the guns and the people who made them instead." This is the "logic" of the anti's: it isn't the fault of the KILLER! It was the evil gun that MADE the otherwise loving person commit murder. These people should be ruled legally insane (which, of course, would have to be reported to NICS... [:D]). -Troy |
