May possibly be analytical teardown of a captured aircraft.  It looks awfully clean.  Can't quite tell what model it is, but I suspect it's an early Gustav.

Bloddy 'ell man of course they captured it. There is no front, no spinny thing, no way for it to escape.

Theres a story I heard about one of the Daimler engines being taken to Rolls Royce for teardown and inspection. Supposedly RR was amazed at the precision of the crankshaft. They said that they could not duplicate it. Dont know if true.

The Brits shot down hundreds of ME109's.   I'd bet they pieced a few together or repaired some that were ditched or bought one from the Spaniards...

Find some good Kodachromes from that era. You will be amazed. Digital photography many times still cant beat a Kodachrome slide.

I have discovered by looking at black and white WW2 pictures and looking at the same picture in color that I can see camoed things better in the black and white than I can in color.

cool pics, but the pic of the P-47 isn't from WWII. Its from after 18 Sep 1947 when the USAF became an independent branch. When that pic was taken which was probably some time in the late 40s or very early 50s that Jug would have been known as a F-47

I noticed that on the tail and was unsure when it was from, As I did remember it went from Army Air Corp to USAF, but could not remember if it was late war or post war.

I'd bet anything that is a Savage made one.  I've seen couple Savages with that exact same curl to the fore end wood.  Never seen it on any others.
