It doesn't matter what the bolt group is coated with if the rest of the gun isn't built right.

I like the fail zero stuff cause I'm lazy and I dont like to clean.

I have one and like it. Admittedly, I only bought it because it was the only BCG I could find in stock at the time, but now I'm glad I did. It wipes clean with a paper towel, and does indeed feel slick to the touch even when completely dry.

I've never had a BCG problem due to it not being coated with some newfangled shiny shit..so I doubt I'll ever buy one.

I use them in two different rifles.

My 7.62x25 Tokarev AR since surplus Tok ammo is all corrosive.

My Dad's period correct M16 clone I'd built for him based on his rifle he was issued in 1968.

Other than that, it DOES make it easier to clean...but it's mostly bling.

If you're doing a SS barrel, I think a chrome BCG looks slick.

Get a black gas tube too.  Makes it look very clean.

There's your answer OP.  Get a Young's National Match.  They're designed a bit differently with increased bearing surface (supposedly to decrease slop and result in more consistent bolt alignment for increased accuracy).

Les Baer Custom BCGs use the YNM carrier too.

i have HC, and melonited BC's... both are easy to clean... neither cost me anymore then a normal BC...

I have a Youngs chrome BCG in one of my ARs.

It is easier to clean.  It's a nice BCG and might be worth a few extra bucks for convenience, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get another chrome, nickel boron, or nickel teflon coated one.  I think they look kinda goofy on all black or subdued colored rifles, too.

I like BCM BCGs.

I would use the standard bolt because it is usually cheaper.

I had to use CLP and wipe and scrape and what not to get the carbon off my standard M16 BCG.

With my Fail Zero, not only does it look and feel better, but I don't have to lube my rifle, and when I get home, I just grab a couple paper towels and easily wipe away the carbon.

The only reason that I have one is because it came stock with my RRA NM. It is easier to clean, and because I am lazy, I will put them in any future builds. I'm not going to retrofit my existing ARs with them though.

THIS!

I have one because it came in my RRA NM rifle too.  Since then, I have decided that I really really like it.  It is much easier to clean than a standard parkerized BCG.  Saves a lot of time when cleaning after each match!

I am in the process of getting my AR rebarreled, and I bought a chrome bolt for the new barrel just for the ease of maintenance.

Chrome is easier to clean but its a gimmick. A standard BCG isn't that hard to clean anyway. Save money for ammo.

Buddy of mine has an old Japanese 7.7mm Arisaka so worn the action was downright sloppy. He had the bolt chrome plated and it is like a brand new rifle.  so yeah, it does serve a purpose.

I bought one from Fulton Arms.
What a pile of shit.
I had to return it two times before they admitted that the plating made the carrier "thicker" and that it could be a "problem".
I sold it to a guy on the EE, he bought it even after I told him of the issues.

He put it in an Oly upper, I guess it worked for him.

The chromed carrier in my DPMS LR308 is very easy to clean and seems more wear resistant than standard carriers.

Ruger currently puts chrome plated BCGs in their (piston) ARs so even though they don't get that dirty it's very easy to clean when they do.
