Eating MREs frequently? Better stock up on the Glade and Charmin.

That's cruelty to animals, I'm calling the SPCA [bd]

Little tip for ya, the meals are a heck of a lot easier to eat when you open them down the long side. Why they put the little pre-cut tear spots on the small end is one of the Army's little mysteries.

Is it true that they put something in the MRE's so as to keep ya from shittin?
Link Posted: 11/7/2002 5:37:52 PM EDT
byron2112, I've eaten them along with 1 regular meal a day, and never had a problem. I've heard people say if you eat them constantly, due to less water content, they can cause constipation. There is no mystery drug being put into them, in my opinion. It's amazing how many rumours I hear USMC guys telling me about them, about constipation drugs. The other one I hear alot is that each meal is 3000 calories- don't know where this one keeps coming from. I like 'em, but would get sick of eating them non-stop. I think they're great for a few days, or longterm emergency food, but prefer stocking cans of normal food in my house for this.

I have heard time and time again that MRE's contained something to slow down bowel movements. Whether this is true or not, I only know that when on an all MRE diet in the field, I only dropped the kids off at the lake every three to four days. But damn those farts could peel paint.

Not too bad. But $75 a case is a bit much for me. I jsut pciked up 4 cases of SOPAKCO MRE's for $25+$25 shipping.$50 a case to my door step.

Agreed. There's no doubt that, after eating only MRE's, one's bowel movements are fewer and farther in between. About every three or four days is correct....

"Dropped the kids off at the lake" LOL. I remember being on a diet of MRE's for 2 Reforgers. I didn't spended a lot of time in the bathroom. I don't know that they cause constipation. But I suspect that very little of an MRE is non-digestable. It's a little different than the junk that most people eat most of the time. Just takes a little longer for the bus to get to the end of the route.

That made me laugh, considering I'd only heard it used as an exression for jerking off in the latrine (a use which makes a bit more sense if you think about it). Many times, if a magazine was brought along, the expression became "read to the kids and take 'em to the pool/lake." Adam

Never eaten an MRE before. If #2's frequency decreases to every 3-4 days, does, uh, the amplitude increase corresponingly? Ie, do the shits become larger(and more importantly, harder and more painful to excrete)?

Where'd you buy them at that price??

It ain't no myth about them clogging you up. I had the early type while serving in the Army 1985-1989. After a few days I would get clogged up and also it was a little painful passing that square block. LOL. I think it also had to do with the water content.Ive never tried the newer ones. War Dawg

when they give ya 1 square of TP to wipe you pasty crack after downloading the colon, you have to wait a couple days to build up your TP square collection to ensure proper wipeage.

Roger that, WarDawg. I also ate lots of the early ones. I was a popular guy in the field, since I had laxative pills with me. I now have diverticulosis which I credit in part to the early MREs

I have emailed these folks and they told me that once you spend $250 at list price, there is a 24% discount. So that makes it more like $57 a case. The discount increases as you buy in larger amounts. Checkout their catalog. Keep the reviews coming! I plan on buying some soon. Maybe we should send some Exlax to you for your troubles! LoL BTW, LLFD recommends using 2 MRE's a day for each adult when planning bulk purchases. They claim they are that filling.
