Frankly I think Davis won because he wanted it more. You rarely saw anything, or any mention of Simon during most of the election, other than Davis ads slamming him. I think Simon forgot that this was in part a popularity contest. And he didn't play the game right, where Davis would have put a lit roman candle in his butt on TV if he thought it would get him votes. (He probably didn't because those are banned in this state) |

For the past year I've been saying we should split the state from top to bottom with the border 25-30 miles inland from the ocean. Here's the proof. What I don't understand are all those north coast counties voting democrat. I can understand Marin, but north of that most of the people I have met are pretty conservative (although I think they reply on govt. aid because their economies are really bad.) Opps, come to think of it that's where the pot growing hippies live. Here the good news: * The Republicans didn't lose any seats in the House. * The Republicans didn't lose any seats in the state senate. * The Republicans gained two seats in the state assembly while the demos lost two. vote2002.ss.ca.gov/Returns/LegComp.htm BTW, looking at the map it appears the true believers are located in San Francisco and Alameda Counties, with Los Angeles close behind. If we had something like an electoral college within CA, the demos wouldn't have a chance. |

So what else does davis shove up his butt in San Fran?? And what do the gays shoot off on the 4th?? A new invention...the BLRM..Butt Lanuched Roman Candle!!!! And Sorry to all the gun owners in Kali..... Time to move......... |

Quoted: Matt, you missed Contra Costa in your list of liberal counties [:D]. If we split, I think it should be in 3 parts. Just cuz. Yep, but we are pretty much on the low end, not as bad as Alameda or LA at least. [8D] But the good news is support for Davis is down across the board. If he thinks he has a mandate, he's out of his mind. Here is the 1998 map, compare it to the 2002 map and you'll see Davis lost a number of counties and is down in the counties that originally supported him. Also, the Republicans gained two state assembly seats while the demos lost two. That is good news as well. Sorry guys...I hate to burst your bubbles...but the millions and millions of Kalifornistan liberals; those academites-grints-socialists-gays-Hollywoodies-gangstas-dopers-lawyers-union thugs-teachers-cholos-social workers-surfers-and a zillion govt. workers ALL are going to continue to vote for the Democrats. Too bad too...that would be a nice place to live if it were run by Republicans. It has been said that only if the Republicans had run a better candidate...but consider this: What if Davis were replaced by a better Democratic candidate? Davis will be gone next time...and this playing field remains solidly lefty-looney leaning. Make me want to puke...[puke] (From one who fled six years ago!) Good luck anyway! |

Quoted: Funny, I tought San Diego was a little more liberal leaning than Los Angeles. And why did Imperial go Davis? It's farmland. SD more liberal than LA??? You've got to be kidding. SD is has some of the largest military bases in the country and all of the retired folks that go along with that. Definite Repub stronghold. Imperial is the home of Cesar Chavez. That should tell you why they go left. |
| While the voter turn out overall was an all time low, I was REALLY disappointed in Orange County. Supposedly mostly conservative, something like 1.5 million registered voters from that county did NOT go vote. Davis only beat Simon by 300K votes. Apathy is killing this state. Not just in OC, but all over. The Libs are so sure they can win they don't go vote. If the Republicans would get off their asses we could take this state back. |

I was surprised Sanchez get another term, until I realized she has Garden Grove and part of Santa Ana. Now it is all clear to me. |

That should tell you why they go left. My paternal uncle and aunt was into the alternative counter culture in San Diego. They always said San Diego was more interesting than LA. I just assumed that birds of a feather... What bases are left in San Diego? Didn't El Toro get shut down. Naval Shipyards/Ports? I thought the only active one on the west coast was in Frisco/Oakland/San Jose area. California use to host a whole lot a military bases. The Air Force have left March(reserve), Beale, Travis, and Edwards. |

The problem is that there aren't many conservatives left in the state. They all bailed (like me) when the rampant Socialism became to much to handle. Before long it won't matter who wins because all the third world immigrants are going to make up practically the entire population of the state. After voting all the useful idiot pandering Democrats into office, they'll vote their own ethnic leaders into office and kick the rest of you out on your arses and California will return to Mexico (it already looks like it in most places). All you holdouts would be doing yourself a big favor if you sold your house while you can still get more than a bucket of tacos for it. |

El Toro and Redhill (or Tustin or LTA) both closed up shop a long time ago. They were both in Orange County. The Army and Navy left Alameda, Oakland and Seaside a long time ago. Hell I've got a few years worth of the good fight left in me before I hang it up and carpet bag somewhere else. My house went up in value $50,000 last year alone. That's a bucket or two of tacos [:D]. Values continue to rise 10-20% a year for the last three or four now. Wonder how far that's going to go elsewhere. |

Major bases in SD: Camp Pendleton - 1st Marines Fallbrook Naval Weapons Station - small MCAS Miramar (was NAS Miramar) - F-18's, C-130's and choppers 32nd St Naval Station - home of the Pacific Fleet NAS North Island - S-3's and carriers. There were 4 carriers in port for fleet week. It was awesome. USN Coronado Amphib Base - Navy Seals, Boat units, and SWC. PT Loma Sub / Antisub base MCRD - boot camp for the west coast And a ton of smaller facilities that I am sure I am forgetting. |

Come on guys Davis is just really unpopular, in fact he is the most unpopular Governor in Ca history and he still won big time. People in Ca don’t like him buy they love liberal gun grabbing big government socialistic ideas and it wont change any time soon. I was born and raised there; and I have often seen ex liberal democrat candidates run as republicans in the next election for state house and senate seats during the primary and win the parties nomination on a simple platform of a conservative can’t win so you should vote for me because I will at least have a chance of beating a democrat. Many Ca republican candidates are republican in name only. THISISME |

one of the reasons Simon lost was because people were stupidly afraid of what he MIGHT do to abortion rights, so they went back and voted demo. in reality Simon or any other hardcore republican Gov. can NOT and would NOT do anything against abortion rights. the dems are blinded by stupidity, and decided to shit can the state for this one reason. Abortion rights to the GOP is a SILENT KILLER, they need to change there stance on this subject REAL QUICK. why do you think ex-LA mayor riordan stood a good chance of winning? because hes repub AND pro-choice. true he is a RINO. if repub candidate would come out early and say IM PRO-CHOICE then they would win more seats. the kalif GOP along with others had no faith or backing for Simon, while GW is campaigning for repubs in Other states, he really did NOTHING for Simon out here, and this is where repubs NEED the most support. also, did the NRA and CRPA call or notify by mail any members to go out and vote for Simon? i recieved NOTHING from them. the people of this state wanted Change, and conservative repub groups DROPPED THE BALL by not believing or supporting Simon. THESE GROUPS AND PEOPLE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. for all the repub and conservative voters who voted for a change(Simon) ...PAT YOURSELVES ON THE BACK for going into battle WITHOUT Leadership. |
| One of the main problems not mentioned by anyone is that the Dems drastically gerrymandered the districts in 2000 so that there is no hope for republicans to compete. Hell, many ran here unopposed because noone wanted to waste the money to run against them. Though we did have a libertarian get 24% of the vote in one of the races. |
|
Quoted: Though we did have a libertarian get 24% of the vote in one of the races. That was Sonia Harden, she was running against Tauscher in District 10 for US Congress. I voted for her. he he The Republicans didn't even have a candidate to oppose Tauscher, and the south part of the district is conservative. The California Republican party is in dire straights. |

Quoted: One of the main problems not mentioned by anyone is that the Dems drastically gerrymandered the districts in 2000 so that there is no hope for republicans to compete... Which makes it even more remarkable that Republicans picked up two seats in the assembly while DemocRATs lost two. Had there been no redistricting, it's possible Repubs would have taken a majority. Davis got less than half the popular vote. Too bad CA doesn't have a law requiring a runoff and a majority vote to win. [:(] Edited to add: regarding Riordan, though he may have stood a better chance of beating Davis, no way would I vote for him. He's about as anti-gun as they come. He's a D in R clothing. |
