looking at getting one. what would you recomend, springfield, armscorp, or enterprise arms? was thinking about getting an enterprise or armscorp receiver than slowly build the thing, don't have to spend $1200 all at once.

I would go with an SA and a used one might not be bad and can save you a few bucks from your $1200 pricetag.  FOr the SA though i would make sure that you get one with all GI parts in it or else you will wind up replacing them in the long run with GI ones.

I think the forged receiver MK or Chinese Norinco's are worth looking at.  Should be better than the cast receiver on the SA.

Hehehe, I just bought a Norinco off a guy on the board, should be here soon!

$525 shipped, so around $500 for the rifle.

Oh wait, it comes with two USGI mags, deduct $80

$420!

Oh no wait, it has one of those synthetic sparrowhawk stocks, deduct another $60...

$360!

Oh I forgot, scope mount, deduct another $40 minimum...

$320!

I could junk the rifle and sell the receiver for $500, stock for $40, mags for $80, scope mount for $30...  I could get a minimum of $650 for everything... likely a heck of a lot more :)

I have a few but prefer the Entreprise the best. Be sure to check them out. Don't pay retail for their reciever. Dealer cost is $100 less.
Good luck. You'll love the system.
Mags are pricey. Be sure to get only USGI mags.

They're right at $600 dealer cost for their base reciever.
Sarco or someone else in SGN had Armscorp recievers with a GI barrel mounted for $500 I think.
The barrels were like new.

The cast/forged isn't an issue with the M1A as the M14 was DESIGNED to be cast (unlike the AR which was DESIGNED to be forged).

I've got a Springfield Armory M1A which IMHO is way over priced for what the rifle is made up of. I figure they should be selling for about what the AR's do if there was some more competition in the quality M1A area.

I would go to Arizona Response Systems' website and read Mark's evaluation of Entreprise Arms' FAL receiver before I thought about buying anything from them.  MK Specialties is taking money for their forged M1A receiver, but they are not delivering many, if any.  I have also heard unsubstantiated rumor that they did not get
BATF approval prior to manufacturing their new receivers, so BATF is considering seizing all of them, too.  Regardless of what is really going on, MK Specialties' crappy customer service record would keep me from buying one of their receivers.

Springfield receivers can be had for around $400, if you look.  Armscorp can be found cheaper, but they tend to have more issues than the Springfield.  I spoke with Clint McKee at Fulton Armory about receivers before I had him build me an M1A, and he basically won't build on anything but Springfield.  He does do a rebuild of Chinese guns, don't know if he'd build a gun from scratch on one of the receivers or not.

If you look hard, you can find a good condition used Springfield rack-grade for under a grand.  Sometimes, if you're lucky, you can get a NIB one for $900-$1000.
