Hi guys,
My brother works as an arborist and recently found 3 baby gray squirrels.  The mom most likely died when they dropped a large oak.

Over the last 2 weeks they've thrived, growing and acting like little squirrels do.  Up until a few days ago.

The largest and healthiest of the three was dead in the nest he built for them when he checked on them in the morning.

Now he has another that's having labored breathing and is very lethargic.  I really hope this works out for him and them as he's the perfect guy to raise them.  They'd be dead if he hadn't taken them in.

Anyone have any squirrel experience?

My mom bottle fed a little one when I was a kid, ended up a family pet.  It would sit on your shoulder while watching TV, dad let it go when it was ~2 years old.  It never got far from the house, since we put food out for it.

We raised 2, to adulthood - one lived for a few years.

Everything you need is here: http://www.squirrelstore.com/

Be prepared to buy big cat cages - we ended up with 2 large cages configured into 1 big cage.

ETA- Info regarding raising babies is at that link.

If you bottle feed them too quickly or otherwise let them get too much milk or water in their mouths they suck it down too fast, get it in their lungs, and die from pneumonia within a couple of weeks. I went thru several baby squirrels as a boy before I figured that out.

Squirrels are pests that if given the chance will eat your house apart.

Terminate with extreme prejudice !

Was he like, "Aw, look at the little guy go at this bottle. Ha, it's coming out of his nose!"? If so, pneumonia. Maybe some antibiotics?

Ok.... sounds like a upper respiratory infection,  are they being kept warm? Should either take them to the vet or find a squirrel refuge.

This is what they need "ESBILAC "see link,,,,it has what they need that other milk doesn't,,,,check on google, you will find plenty of info.if you look for it.
You can give them the puppy milk with a eye dropper...also plenty of wild life rehabbers around, especially local animal hospitals and vets that will take them and care for them for free...Good luck!

Only knowledge I have of squirrels is how to shoot them and how to eat them.

We have a pet squirrel. Got him when he was very small. We didn't know any better and just fed him the milk we had in the refrigerator until he started eating normal squirrel food.

Back story on how we got him-

My MIL called and said a snake fell out of a tree and almost hot her. I got up and went to  check it out and found the snake was in a tree eating the baby squirrels that were in the nest. I dispatched the snake with severe prejudice-

Head shot-  notice the squirrel tail hanging out the snakes mouth-

This is Rocky about 3 months after we rescued him-

We have had him for over a year. He's pretty cool until he bites the shit out of you.
