Anybody know what size thread propane tanks have? I have a 80 gal propane tank but my 3/4" connector doesn't fit right, too loose.

Also anybody know where I could find a used water tank (like is used with well water)?

Thanks

Can't help you out on the thread question.
As far as used tanks go I get them offered to me at least several times each year for free if I haul them away.
I do a lot of work in the food, beverage and bio-tech industry.
You might want to contact some of your local dairies or bottling companies.
If that doesn't yield anything look under tanks in the phone book and tell them what your interested in. Most folks wont try to stick it to you if it's for yourself and not for business.
Or you could drive out to CA and I might be able to hook you up.
Good luck.

What are you trying to do?

If you are in a hurry, look up your local Parker-Hannifin fluid power dealer, they can probably help you (if it's a bulk tank - if it's not, try your Army/Navy store or Camping store for a "bulk adapter" for a starting point.)

If you are not in a hurry, I'd probably try Northern Tool & Equipment.

You should be able to find both online.  Northern will also have water tanks that you may find useful - for smaller volume, look up a "survival food" type place.

I want to be able to take it to my local gas station and fill it up with compressed air to use for filling bike tires etc instead of using the air pump.

Just open the valve and vent the tank, unscrew the valve from the tank, the threads in the tank are standard pipe threads. You can figure out what you want for fill valve and air chuck from there.

How do I get the valve off? It's on there really tight. I broke a wrench trying to get it off.

PB Blaster if you can get it, Air-tool oil if you can't.  Check your local Fastenal warehouse or a REAL mechanic shop for PB Blaster - it works quicker and is useful to have around...
