Thanks, Mac. That's the guy! I couldn't come up with the name, though. His son now does a similar show.

Yep.

And William Alexander was the old German guy who did those shows in the 70's and early 80's.

And he did seem to put a cabin in the middle of every painting - and he LOVED painting those sharp-cliffed mountains - he'd always get all excited and let out a big manly Nietzsche-like grunt when describing "sehr große Berge!"

Maybe it reminded him of his youth, when he was deserting the German army and crossing into Switzerland to diddle the young frauen.

j/k

Upon further review, I revise my answer to that (late) bushy-headed bark chewer on PBS that "paints" using only a 3" brush and a knife. You know, the guy that always had little woodland creatures on his show.

Or perhaps the Austro-Hungarian guy that preceded him, who used much the same technique, but ruined every painting at the end by putting a cabin right in the middle of the foreground. Alexander?

This is the closest incorrect answer so far. But still quite a bit off the mark.

Was it the same guy who said....

'Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will fall off like autumn leaves.'  - John Muir

He did a lot of landscape sketches of the same quality although I'm not familiar with this one.

Now I'm going to go back to pretending I'm not some hippy nature boy. [8D]
