We are even considering it as an enterprise standard.

Right now we have Sophos and its a memory hog and its let some bad juju slip through.

How did you put MSE on your Macbook?

It alerted me while trying to download Japanese tentacle porn. I'm a fan.

Ive had MSSE miss stuff.  I use it in conjunction with malwarebytes and AVG.

I have been using it for almost 2 years and have never had an issue. I would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

I had an old Dell running Norton, installed MSE and it found 2 virus that Norton did not detect.   Dumped Norton ran MSE for the rest of the Dells life no issues.   Then finally got sick of PC's and got a Mac.

After pushing it to 2500+ computers used by Iowa State University staff, faculty, and lab computers my virus calls went from 10+ a day to less than 1 a week.

McAfee is what they used before.

I would say MSE and the paid malwarebytes client running side by side is the cheapest, best solution out there.

It is if you couple it with good Internet habits and common sense.

No AV substitutes for that.  It's a layer of protection but not enough by itself.

Free is all I have ever used on my personal computers.  They also use MS Security Essentials.  The work laptop has Symantec on it but I can't control that. Never had a problem with any of the computers (4 total). If you are using a router you have a little bit more firewall security built in from what I have read.

I run the free version of Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware. They pick up stuff that Microsoft Security Essentials doesn't.

Yeah.  I've never gotten any of the crazy virus shit people complain about on here all the time.   Firefox with NoScript and AdBlockPlus as well as MSE are about all you need.

Not enough MAC users in the world for virus writers to spend the time to so. If that ever changes, look out.

As usual, Java was full of holes Potentially allowing malware to run on a Mac.  I wish you luck finding any significant reports of any users actually winding up with an exploited system.  Even so, a couple of minutes with time machine (followed by the usual slew of patches to fix Java's crap) would take care of that.

MSE and SuperAntiSpyware for me.

I run the SuperAntiSpyware scan once a month or so.

Seems like SAS always cleans out 200-300 tracking cookies.   Whatever "tracking cookies" are.

I also run Malwarebytes - it doesn't see any action here at home but gets a pretty good workout at work.

It routinely catches the trojans that Symantec and McAfee miss.

Norton consumes system resources and takes a bunch of your money. Basically, it is a virus. At least that was my experience.
8/9/2013 6:11:03 PM EDT
[#47]
All I use.  Norton and then McAfee became such resource hogs that I wouldn't use those products if they were free.  So far so good.
