On my way next week.

Doc and MRI highly suggest a slap tear (hopefully nothing more than a II type fix, possibly even just a debridement).  I also have some fairly significant bone spurs on the collar bone and some arthritis starting so the doc suggested that I go ahead and get it done before the rotator cuff is completely torn--as it is now the bone spurs are only fraying the rotator cuff.  Non surgical intervention failed.

I had the left shoulder done a few years ago due to bone spurs on the collar bone and a frayed rotator cuff.  That shoulder is like butter but it didn't involve a SLAP tear.  That surgery was a breeze and I woke up with almost full use of my shoulder.  A few sessions of physical therapy and I was 100+%.

Just curious if the recovery is as bad as it looks on the web.  I imagine someone here has had it done.  It's going to completely screw up my bow hunting season but has to be done now due to deductibles, etc.

A person to whom I have been "engaged" with for about 37 years had that surgery.

No big deal if she can get through it.

Pics have been previously posted for those that inquire. Her pics are available for those that search. No new pics forthcoming, the older ones are "better."

Thanks, I am hoping to wake up and find that there is no tear and all that they had to do was clean it up and get rid of the bone spurs.

The rehab is as bad as you've read. You will most likely not get full ability back if you were athletic prior to the injury.

Had my left should scoped three years ago for a rotator cuff and slap tear. Recovery really, really sucked - had to sleep sitting up on a lazy boy for a month and took 6 months to get back to the gym. It still hurts, but it is better than it was before. I'm pretty sure that I've torn my right one and I'm dreading having to get that arm cut on.

MODS Lock this thread NOW! :D

So I guess that it is as bad as I have read.

Curious did you guys have the nerve block with general anethesia?  How bad was it when your nerve block wore off?

Most of the SLAP tears that I see in clinic do quite well with much less pain than a RTC tear / repair. Just listen to the docs post-op instructions.

Nerve block was a piece of cake. I was still awake when they put it in and didn't feel anything - pretty cool to watch the needle inside your neckon the ultrasound. You'll be so stoned when you come out of surgery, you'll pretty much just be drooling on yourself for the next week.

Lft shoulder Aug '10, rt shoulder Dec '10.  Recovery was harder than the two ACL/meniscus tears on my left knee because the repaired areas needed to heal vs "just cut it out".  No limitations at this point.  I didn't have any real issues sleeping due to the sling/immobilizer.

Full surgery set up/knocked out for me due to heart condition.

I didn't drool after surgery - very good gas passer.
