Guy buys part
Guy installs part

Guy uses part

Guy takes part off and sells it for 75% of retail

Dude buys part

Dude installs part on same type of gun

Dude says part won't fit

Dude wants to send the part back to guy for refund

Guy doesn't want part back because he knows that it does fit and is afraid that the part may be damaged

Who's responsible?

Caveat emptor.

depends on the part, if it's something that can be damaged upon installation, I'd be leery.

Dude.  He thinks he'll only get 75% of the 75% back, and a refund is easier to ask for.

I went through almost the exact same situation as the seller and I was forced to grant a refund.

The buyer acted like a total asshat as well as calling me a thief. Still made no difference and I was out the shipping to the buyer and shipping to return to me.

Buyer beware doesn't seem to get much traction anymore. Not in the EE anyways.

may just have to chalk it up to cost of doing business.  Maybe it doesn't fit, maybe he decided he doesn't like it, could be anything.  Does he have good feedback?

-I'd also have him open a dispute on the feedback, when you receive it back, inspect it and post results.  could be his equipment instead of what you sold him.

Yeah. It really depends on if the buyer wants to be a dickhead or not.

The used items Ive bought in the EE that didnt run 100%....Ive fixed myself. Then again....Im not a dickhead.

Was the part correct and worked OK for the original guy who sold it? Or was there a known issue with the part when the guy put it up for sale?

If I buy a part, unless its noted there is an issue with the part, I expect it to be correct and in working order when I buy it... as is the case with anything I put up for sale...

More details as to what the issue is with dude would be helpful...

I had a similar thing happen to me on the EE.  A guy here sold me the wrong part (different thread pattern than advertised).  The seller was a real ass about it too.  I ate it and moved on.

Where is that rule?

I'd probably take a banning just on principle alone. Fuck that.

Well if you know it was fine when you shipped it, I say its something on his end that is wrong. I wouldnt take it back. If they ban you for it, so be it.

for the item to arrive as advertised, no?

I can see if it was damaged in transit, but other than that, this screams buyers remorse.

Well I'm thinking the same, but regardless, it's about impossible to prove.  I'd just take it back, not worth the hassle.  Ghetto is a good EE'er, I've done deals with him before

I bought a Troy TRX forend on another forum. Seller offered 100% satisfaction guaranteed , "takes care of his stuff " etc.  It arrived and was obviously fucked up, the index tab was visibly mashed. I contacted the seller inquiring about a refund, and he immediately accused me of fucking it up even though I hadn't done anything other then open the package and inspect it. I eventually deduced that A. it was fucked up in transit, damage inside the box after I got to looking at it &  B. seller was a raging douchebag whom I've never done business with again based on his response to me taking him up on his written offer of a no questions refund. Troy had me send it to them for inspection and they replaced it with a brand new Alpha.

Shit does get mangled in shipping. I try to mitigate that and do a good job packing my stuff these days.  As a general rule I'm willing to accept returns if the buyer isn't being a dick about it and making stupid accusations about me trying to scam them , payment will be returned after product arrives in my hands, and it's returned in the same condition it was shipped.

ETA: I assume its the enfield mount? If so, is it possible there's variations that the mount will fit and variations that it wont fit on?

I dont know shit about enfields, but I'd take it back personally on the condition that it's in the same shape as it was shipped, refund upon receipt and the buyer wasn't being a dick about it etc.
If it arrived and was stripped out and gouged and such it'd be going back to the buyer. Has the buyer said what exactly the issue is? Holes not aligning or the mount doesnt fit correctly due to receiver contour/location width difference etc? Again I dont know enfields or where the mount attaches. I presume by the pics it replaces the rear sight leaf or something similar.

Gotcha, I follow now.  This one is a puzzle.

7/28/2013 7:27:35 PM EDT
[#37]
Well...

I would make the buyer the following offer:

IF he pays to mail the part back to me, and IF I receive the part in the same condition that I sold it in, or at least in a similar enough condition that I feel I can list it for my original asking price, I will give him a refund less the cost of shipping him the part.

But if I get it back and find out that he's fucked around with it, broken it, or scratched it up trying to install it or otherwise decreased it's value, then he's not getting one red cent of his money back, and if he wants the item back he's going to have to pay for shipping and compensate me for my time.
