So starting with this thread.
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1510871_Anybody_have__cheap_Murray_lawn_mower_from_Wal_Mart_.html I bought the mower. I put oil and fuel in it today. Was mowing the grass, all was well. It stopped a couple times because it was clogged. Unclogged all the grass and started first pull. Decided to take a break and do some string trimming to let the mower cool down. Went to pull start the mower and nothing, cord won't pull. Looked under the deck and all was clear. Tried spinning the blade, it won't budge. What do I do now? |

"The Murray Gas-Powered Lawn Mower is ideal for mowing yards of various sizes. Using a 148cc Briggs & Stratton engine with 4.5 gross torque, this Murray Lawn Mower has plenty of power. The side discharge of the Murray Gas-Powered Lawn Mower sends cut grass out of your way. The wheels of the Murray Lawn Mower let you easily move over the grass and the steel deck makes it durable. With its five-position height adjustment, you can set the Murray 20" Lawn Mower to cut various lengths of grass, working best on flat terrain. Each of the Murray Gas-Powered Lawn Mower's four wheels has its own height adjustment handle. This allows you to find just the right setting for the height of your lawn's grass. The Murray 20" Lawn Mower also comes with a two-year manufacturer's warranty."
I found the problem.

Take it back to WalMart and have them replace it
Lots of bitches about WalMart, but their customer returns policy is second to none (in my opinion). I had a visio BluRay player that crapped out on me. I had no receipt, no box, nothing that even said I bought it at WalMart. Customer service told me if they had one of the same model one the shelf just go get it and they would swap it out for me. They did, and I did. |

When I bought a new Murray mower from Walmart this spring, it came with a bottle of oil exactly enough to fill the new engine. Instructions said to dump the entire bottle in before starting. Makes it almost foolproof. Quoted:

Will they take it back all covered in grass and full of fluids? I bought it yesterday. Still have the box and receipt. Hell, they take back underwear that was worn...
I guess I'll give it a shot. Off to load up the truck. Will report back. |

Does the safety bar on the handle stop the blades or just not allow the engine to start or kill it if it is running and you let go? OH yea, I forgot about that. Haven't used a push mower in a couple years. On mine MTD 17 YO you have to pull the handle before the engine will rotate. Its like a brake on the flywheel I think. |

Pull the plug and see if you can pull the rope or turn the blade by hand, the cylinder is full of oil.
If it is, take it back. If it isn't there is something really wrong with it and take it back. When you unclogged it did you tip it up on its side? Always tip mowers with the carb up, not down. |

Could be I guess, but he did use it for a little while so I'm thinking he figured the pull the handle part out. The cable could have broken or gone out of adjustment though... |

Buy once, cry once.
I had my wife cut the yard last week because I've been working 7am - 9pm all week as well as this week . . . the drive/transmission somehow broke when she was using it and its awful at bagging the cut grass since day 1. Crappy troy built from Lowe's . . . briggs runs great though. Going to buy a toro or honda this week, tired of trying to make junk work that I use 2 times a month for an hour at a time. |

When I worked Lawn & Garden at Walmart, people would buy mowers in the spring and return them in the fall. Without fail, they always got their money back

OP, if you will admit to possibly snickering a little at the irony of having started a thread yesterday about the wisdom of buying a cheap mower and then starting a thread the very next day about how your new mower died, I will admit to LOLing like hell about it. |

Went back to Wal-Mart. Lady at the return counter was very nice and told me to bring it to lawn and garden if it didn't have any fluids in it.
Well it did have fluids in it. So I brought it to Tire-Lube & Express where a buddy of mine works. He took it, fluids and all. Went back to the return counter and got my cash back. Got home and finished what little I had left with my string trimmer. Basically got a free mow. Next mower will be a good one. |

This. After three shitty low end mowers I bought a honda and I can pull start it with my pinky even after having it sit all winter. Quoted:

Take it back and get something with a Honda motor on it. This. After three shitty low end mowers I bought a honda and I can pull start it with my pinky even after having it sit all winter. Yeah, I can do the same with my shitty MTD, and it's never EVER known a single drop of gas stabilizer. Same goes for my trimmer. One data point, though. |
