Any ideas what kind of tree this is?  I can't find anything thats even close but maybe its just because its not a native tree this area.

I doubt it, being in Michigan.

My guess is Locust.

Well its certainly not a locust tree since I have 6 of those in the back and they look nothing like those at all.

Above is locust tree's leaves.  







It's Cypress, or a Redwood of some kind.  A bald Cypress is the only conifer that loses it's leaves in winter.

Once again Arfcom comes through.  Its a Dawn Redwood, which expains why I couldn't identify it based on trees from the region.  The bark, trunk, limb and leaf structure all a perfect match.

wrong. dawn redwood and the larches are deciduous. There are probably others as well.
