The Mrs. had her recruiting package accepted and it looks like we will be moving next year.
She got a list of available locations around CONUS, and there are quite a few (about 126 if I counted right). There are 23 available offices throughout CA, NY, NJ, and CO. Those were immediately ruled out. She has been advised by a SNCO mentor of hers to select a major city, as it will give her more opportunity for success and progression. I am perfectly fine with this as I may have to find a school in the area to finish my last semester or 2 of college, and then find a big boy career/job. All that said, gun laws and the ability to shoot at nice ranges (while also potentially connecting with some ARFCOMMERS) is one of my top priorities. Here are what we pulled as places we would be most interested in going: -Greensboro, NC -Phoenix, AZ -Glendale, AZ -Jacksonville, FL -Knoxville, TN -College Station, TX -Frisco, TX There are many others on the list, but these are what we've come up with thus far. She needs to submit her Dream Sheet ASAP, so I'm reaching out in hopes to get some individual opinions from people who have been to these areas. Now, for you mil guys, she does have a BOP but I'm not sure how that works when it comes to being a recruiter. I'm also not sure if priority is given based on rank/TIG/TIS. Anyway, thanks for your input |

College Station or Frisco. Frisco is basically part of Dallas/Fort Worth, and fulfills the "big city" component. Dallas/Fort Worth is in the Bible Belt, so you may encounter things you aren't used to from the rest of Texas like dry counties and needing to join a "private club" in order to have a beer in a restaurant. There are several handgun ranges in Dallas and west of town you can find longer range rifle ranges. College Station is a much smaller town but isn't that far from Houston by Texas standards (85+ miles). There was pretty much only one range when I lived there in college. ETA: College Station and Frisco both get enough regular heavy winds and heavy rains that hurricanes heading up from the Gulf shouldn't be an issue. (The regular winds and rains, in conjunction with the power company) keep any weak branches, etc down, so you don't have trees and stuff falling over and hitting power lines.) Dallas will get colder--think one or two deep freezes a year, compared to College Station. |

I currently work in Jax, live in GA; ask away. Here's all of the GA and FL listings: -Albany, GA -Brunswick, GA -Centerville, GA -Columbus, GA -Marietta, GA -Valdosta, GA and aside from Jacksonville in FL, there's Pace and Titusville. I wouldn't be at all opposed to moving to Georgia, either. As an aside..........Georgia has a lot of city names the same as Ohio. |

How long you will be in this location? For example, College Station is currently pretty nice, but what will happen there and on the other border states if a general amnesty for illegals is passed? They are 4 year assignments. She will have about 6 years left before hitting 20 once we get there. If we like it, we may extend until she finishes. If not, we'll likely move one more time. |
| The tried area of NC is ok, (Greensboro/Winston-Salam)High Point.) NC is a peculiar state, it's in some areas very, very blue but most of the state is Red. Of the list you gave, I'd say College Station TX but I've never been to Frisco, TX so take that for what it's worth. If I were going to move to anywhere, TX would be it. |

Bruswick is very close to Savannah and the coast which is quite nice; Marietta is in the Atlanta area and if you get into the right suburb it's a nice area. |

College Station or Frisco. I think I'm most interested in moving to TX. Here's the other TX locations: -Abilene -Amarillo -Arlington -College Station -El Paso -Frisco -League City -McAllen -Odessa -Rosenberg -San Angelo -San Antonio -Tyler -Waco We wouldn't dread having to live in San Antonio, but we've both already been there before and the whole area seemed to just revolve around the river walk, in regards to stuff to do. Plus, I'll probably get sick of all of those basic training kids real quick. But I know there's a lot of you mouth breathing basement dwellers out there, and I want come hang out in your dungeons. ETA: Arlington, El Paso, McAllen, Odessa, San Angelo and Waco all have a note of "Spanish speaking highly desired." There's other places that it's a requirement, but none that I listed thus far. It's pretty BS, IMO. Someone is trying to join the US military. If they can't go to the recruiter and speak English, they should immediately be disqualified. I don't know of any job in any branch of the US mil where you don't have to know how to speak English. English as your second, third, fourth, fifth, etc language? Sure, come on down. Can't speak English at all? Goodbye. I served with a few South Koreans who opted for the US mil instead of the mandatory 2 years with their military. My Wife's parents are both from PI and her dad retired after 20 in the Navy, and now decommissions ships in Hawaii. All of them spoke English fluently as their second language. The Spanish speaking recruiter requirement/desire is utter BS. |

What service? The force of the chair. But that sort of doesn't matter since its recruiting. Roger that, any preference to being in the vicinity of a base? If you could get Titusville and live at Patrick AFB, to me that would be the dream assignment. Jacksonville and Atlanta offer the big city stuff, ATL more of course. Jax offers a shit load of saltwater activities. |

I would pick the TN office. People are real nice around that area. She had to attend NCOA (Non Commissioned Officer Academy) in TN and she really liked the state. I still have great grandparents that live in Cleveland, TN, and have also been to the Smoky Mountains a few times. Plus, it's not too far from home (Cleveland, OH). |

ETA: I just checked and Titusville is available............but REQUIRES that she speak Spanish. Fucking bullshit. |

I think there's a 1000 yard range in Oak Ridge, but there is a very nice range in Cookeville that is run by a precision-rifle instructor that looks very nice. Check out the TN Hometown forum for further info, as I don't feel like digging right now. LOL and you don't have to. You're right, I should have head on over to those HTF's already. I've just been so busy at work, I can only really grab a couple of minutes every hour to refresh this thread and comment. It's been a busy summer thus far. My ARFCOM time has suffered and I am not happy about it. |

Having grown up in Marietta, GA I have lots of good memories but like any metro Atlanta town it has changed a good bit. If you go to look around you will want to live in East Cobb County or West Cobb County (Marietta is the county seat) These are the nicer areas and East Cobb wins hands down for access to I-75, aka how to get to Atlanta. All of the other cities you listed for Georgia are south of the gnat line. Do you know what a gnat is?? These are small flying insects that get right up in your face, fly in your nose and mouth and every now and then land in your eye. Some people get used to them and some people go crazy. When looking at a map of GA the gnat line runs from Columbus, east to Macon and then over to Savannah. Hope this helps |

Phoenix Az is a good place to be in general, and is a very big city.
good conservative/borderline libertarian state, and its probably one of the most free states in the union. You can shoot anywhere out here, and I mean anywhere. Weather is perfect all but 3 months of the year, and cool temps in the summer are only 2 hours away. constitutional carry, and 2nd only to Utah in gun laws (No CCW on college campus) If you have any questions about AZ feel free to ask. |

Frisco, Texas. DO IT!!!! You won't regret it. Would we be able to play tummy sticks? I live in Plano, very close. Lot's of ARFCOMers here. And Remember!!!! ARFCOM is moving here to this part of Texas. My Mother has been looking up places and augmenting my research. She told me that Frisco was voted top city in the country or something. Sounds nice there. Not too far from Houston, which I have a few buddies there. |

My friend's dad is the city manager. Tenn. ain't a bad choice either. Gun la Gun laws are better and probably more places to shoot. Our BBQ is better. If y'all get out here, post in TXHTF, you will get a nice ARF welcome, we'll make sure. |

I would love to come there and link up with the TX crew. |

FWIW I would do Frisco, TX or AZ |
