| What value do you place on your property? I'm not asking what dollar value you put on your property or what your net worth is, but what does property mean to you? Is it just stuff, is it the sum of your life's accomplishments or does it mean something else to you? |
| my property is the sum of my lifes accomplishments, I love were I live, if it burned to the ground with all my possessions I would be bummed not life ending for sure, just re-build in the same location, i am not going anywere and I live behind enemy lines in CT, so that tells you how much I like my property and general area. |

Our house and yard are modest but they mean everything to me--though I consider we are stewards of the land, not owners.
I'm very tied to the land. Few people mean to me what it does. If by "property", you mean material possessions, the ones that have sentimental value mean a lot. |

It's stuff you traded hours/days/months/etc of your life for. Yep - this person gets it. When you say 'trading' what that really means is you give up part of your life (for however long) to obtain 'property'. When someone takes/steals from you, what they are really doing it taking a part of your life that you sacrificed to obtain whatever you have ............big or small, makes no difference. If you do not value your life - so be it, no big deal (think on whatever level you want) but, if you do value every second of your limited life on this earth, that changes everything ............. just saying ....................... |

Theft isn't the only threat to your property though. Fire, disasters, financial hardship can all threaten to deprive you of your property. You'd shoot a thief to defend your stuff. OK, so would most people. Would you stay with your property if there were a flood, fire, hurricane, swarm of locusts, etc. coming your way? Would you rather be dead than lose all your stuff?

I don't view property from a $ amount or even from a point of accomplishment, but as a measure of time/life. If we're lucky we get around 80 good years out of life, that is all. As a 22 year old college student my time is currently valued at around $20 an hour. Every piece of property I own I consider it a part of my life, life that could have been spent with loved ones, but instead was sacrificed to obtain something else. As for theft, yeah I'll kill you if you tried to take a part of my life. (if it was legal of course |

Maybe in a country where you could actually own land it would mean something. As long as the property you own is taxed it means nothing to me. Get me some land on Costa Rica or some other country and I might think differently. Yeah, farmers are stupid.

I like my "stuff" as much as most folks but, at the end of the day, it's just stuff. It's all fleeting, just like this life. I'm but a stranger here, Heav'n is my home... All that stuff you have came from God. EVERYTHING. Some of it requires that you be a good steward to it, as it may be beneficial to the building of His Kingdom. I've been given much, and I hope to leave a little more for my family. |

Quoted: My stuff is bought with my money. My time and experience is traded for money. When you steal my stuff, you're stealing a part of my life. I'm a firm believer in lethal force in defense of property. Theft is not the only threat to your property. Why are you guys so one dimensional in your thinking?

Quoted: Property is "just stuff", but it is "just stuff" that I spent part of MY life acquiring. My stuff is a marker of my life's energy. Stealing part of it is stealing some portion of my life. So yeah, I'd kill or be killed over it. Just as I would my life... What about fire, flood or swarms of locusts?

I'm fine killing someone over taking a breath mint. Civilization only exists because we have a set of laws keeping me from being harsh vs someone else letting everyone slide. I say that as someone against State sanctioned death penalties and all for defense of property. I'm well off at this stage in my life. It's grossly unfair to say I could protect my higher value goods with violence and death and not afford the same right to Joe Schmoe when he actively defends his property. Texas has us both covered for the most part. The truth is I can hire lawyers and am better able to defend that property than the average guy due to age, status, and wealth. That sucks. Anyone who every started a business or invested in himself early on in a career HATES thieving bastards because it comes right out of your future. Five dollars stolen from you when you were 20 is worth a great deal more than 5 from me at 40 for a variety of reasons. It's never "just stuff" if you are earning it. |

Is there one among you who can think of anything not related to theft?

Depending on what's coming, most likely I would stay and try and defend my property-sandbags for flooding,water/firebreak for fire, button up for a hurricane,12 guage for locusts. I don't think that there are many people that wouldn't try and defend there property by any means necessary.I believe it's human nature to protect your family and belongings.I'm not going to kill myself if something happens to all my stuff-it would suck, but you either get back up and start over,or you hunt down the motherfuckers that took you stuff. I've lost plenty of friends and family over the years, and thie stuff gets looked over and taken or shitcanned. |

I spend time at work because they pay me money to do so. Time spent at work cannot be spent doing other things, things which bring me joy rather than money.
With the money I receive for spending some of my finite supply of time working, I buy things that I need or want. I give time and effort to get money, and give money to get things. My things have a general equivalent in time and effort spent, and that time and effort can never be recovered if my things are destroyed or stolen from me. |
