I realized I have no idea who the heavyweight champion is. Last I heard, it was one of those Russian brothers. Can't even remember their names. Not like the days of Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield, etc. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Boxing has always bored me. MMA on the other hand is very entertaining. Watching SRL and his rivals was never really boring. He was really before I was old enough to watch. |

I still go to live local shows. Don't confuse boxing promotions with the sport of boxing. I go to the All Army Boxing every year and I love it. But the OP is right, For the most part no one cares about boxing anymore and they have done it to themselves. |

Seriously, can anybody tell me who the heavyweight champ is without googling? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Which one? That is part of the problem. How many belts are there these days? I would imagine it has been many, many years since there was a unified heavyweight champ. BTW....I have no idea who any of them are. |

Seriously, can anybody tell me who the heavyweight champ is without googling? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile I couldn't, and I used to watch all bouts religiously. ESPN, Showtime, HBO, etc.. I used to love watching Tuesday Night Fights on USA. Sean O'Grady was a great commentator/analyst. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Quoted: Can anyone name the current heavy weight champ in 30 seconds from this post?? And go......... Dude it's still Klitschko. If you really want to know who's who: http://wbanews.com/artman/publish/campionshipChampions/index.shtml http://www.worldboxingfederation.net/wbfchampion.htm |

Back when Cassius Clay....later (Muhammad Ali) was fighting, there was nothing better
than anticipating a big Saturday night fight on TV. ( older folks than me will take it a notch further back) That era is long gone and so is boxing. The badassness of the MMA fighters is fun to watch, but it just doesn't have the build up to a epic confrontation that the old boxing promotions used to do. For this generation it probably does, but like many other things these days everything seems rushed and doesn't deliver the build up to something special and anticipated with it's scarcely of events. I'll try to stay in the right lane and keep out of the way.

Kinda interesting, since Vitali is the champ of one sanctioning body, and Vitali is the champ of the others. Since like 2006? Crazy. Oh well, they're probably very excited in Russia. And Russian mafia says "Fuck you, Don King." Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
| A big indication of how far boxing has fallen is that EA, the big video game company, recently announced that they were suspending development of their awesome boxing series Fight Night, in order to concentrate resources on developing the next UFC game.Apparent they feel there's a lot more money to be made on MMA. |

Yes it has. The corruption, match dodging(Roy Jones I'm looking at you), and lack of compelling Heavy weights have killed the sport. That and MMA is just much more entertaining. Let me guess: You like the sweaty underwear wrestling parts most, right? |

Imagine that. ![]() But that bullshit is on TV... ALL. THE. TIME. I used to watch HBO and Showtime boxing events, but they were few and far between. ![]() You can't really have a favorite fighter, because you never get to see their fights. |
| I'll be dating myself but I remember Sonny Liston and Cassius Clay. Ali and Frasier. Ali and Foreman. Those were great days in boxing. There have been good ones since then with Sugar Ray and others but I'm afraid the glory days of boxing have long since passed. |

Not sure if it's a special deal, or if they are going to try to get a regular thing going. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Boxing is still huge overseas. Evidence that the Klitschkos killed boxing in the US? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Most extremely athletic guys that size in the US go into the NFL. There's a much better chance of making big $$ than in boxing. We haven't had a dominant HW since Tyson and Holyfield, which coincidentally is around the time that the huge paydays started rolling in to football. We're still competitive in the lower classes and there are quite a few young Americans coming up, but no real HW's. For the most part the HW fights suck anyway, the real action right now is at 140 and 147, then to a lesser extent up into the MW divisions. |

And that is the end of the MMA - it's becoming the WWE. First it was all the bickering, then the reality TV shit, it's getting to be hard to tell what is manufactured and what's not. Pretty soon the off-stage drama will be in-the-ring drama, when they figure out they can make money off it happening in the cage. |
