Purchasing or selling? Buy for as close to spot as possible. And sell for whatever the market will allow

I haven't bought any recently due to the high premiums

Melt value varies depinding on if it is 10 dimes, 4 quaters or 2 half dollars.
The 1 dollar face value is about .77 oz of silver and $20 face is a little high for .77 oz.

Silver is at $21.65 now and I would be better paying around $18 per 90% face $1

Melt on a pre 65 quater is $3.91 so $15.64 for $1 face.

$18 would be a fair markup.

I run a retail bakery and just found 10 pre 1960's quarters in my register earlier this week.  So, by my fuzzy math, somebody came in and bought $2.50 worth of sweets and really paid about $50 for it.

That is too high with silver being around $21.60 an ounce. I would like to pay somewhere around 17-18x face at current spot. Premiums are high right now and will be for a while due to the price of silver tanking in the last few months like it did. Nobody wants to sell their $30 silver for $22.

Just called a local shop and they are at $18 for every $1 worth... so 4 quarters, 10 dimes, etc... But I didn't know that sales under $1000 have a sales tax?  Guess that will put off any purchase for a while.  Damn 8% sales tax!

Not sure if they should be charging sales tax on US Currency.

I thought the same thing and did some digging.  Basically what I found was it depends on individual state tax law.  For face value, IE buying quarters from a bank, then there is no tax.  But buying coinage at/for "antique or collectible value", then it can be taxed.  From what the local shop said, "buying $1000 or more worth is considered an investment and then won't be taxed."
